R.R.:I have been wrong before about injuries

We'll see but I was referring to this week. Our fan base seems to think he really is superman, but with not just fractured ribs, also a tender ankle there are plenty if precautions to take. Even with a healthy Cam, this is a tough game and only one of 16. The other 15 are more important. We know Cam will play no matter what, but it's certainly a risk especially with a guy like McCoy along with Zjohnson and David.

Only 16 games. This one is just as important as any if not more so than others. Division game/NFC game.

Don't think any coach whose QB needed as many reps with new receivers as ours does, would hold him out of practice for "gamesmanship".  That would be incredibly idiotic.

Sore ribs for a QB will most likely cause accuracy issues.  Look for them to totally stop the run and force Cam to use his arm to move the ball.

Lovie is a good coach.

Can't afford to sit him until he is 100%. That would take weeks and weeks.

Brady, Romo, etc.....you can play with ribs. Might not be able to be a running back but you can play QB.

Also, Anderson IMO is overrated by our fanbase. Outside of his one fluke season.....he has been horrible in recent years when gameplanned for (with a better OL and recieving options than he will have week 1).

Cam is the guy. He likely will be playing through injury for a huge chunk of the season. He just has to alter his style

Thank you

it's mccown....with a college level offensive coordinator

...with a younger college level play caller

....going up against our stud D

nevermind. you aren't looking at the big picture here and you probably won't.

have fun watching.

I've been reading your posts. Are you a scout or a private investigator? It's a lot of good information and analysis that makes me want to cover my cyber tracks

It's a hairline fracture of his ribs of all places. The idea that this will hinder him for weeks on end is for the chickenest of chicken littles.

That said, losing week 1 last year was quite possibly the difference between what we had and a super bowl ring. The idea of sitting our best player is lunatical.

if he'snot ready I feel totally awesome about DA coming in especially with no tape and a bit of a wth factor for tampa to sort through. this is a winnable game either way.

There is plenty of DA tape....and DCs have owned him outside of 2007. With better OLs and WRs than we currently have.

Even in 2007, Derek Anderson was not that good.  Yeah, he put up "alright" numbers but still threw 19 interceptions and only a QBR of 82.5, which isn't bad but not Pro Bowl level either - it was just a down year in that conference and he got in as an alternate as Tom Brady chose to not attend.  Anyone who remembers that season will recall that signs of Anderson not being a long-term answer were evident down the stretch once defenses began to figure out the Cleveland Browns offense.

Anderson's First 8 Games:

17 TDs, 9 INTs, 57.8%, 91.7 QB Rating

Anderson's Last 8 Games:

12 TDs, 10 INTs, 55.5%, 73.7 QB Rating

In Anderson's next three seasons after 2007, he finished '08/'09/'10 with QB Ratings of 66.5, 42.1, and 65.9.

Why a majority of people think Anderson was ever truly a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback, I have no idea.  What I do know is that Anderson is a crummy quarterback who I don't see is any different than McCown who a lot of people on this site doesn't seem to think will pose us any threat.

Now could we win with Derek Anderson at quarterback?  Absolutely, and if the risk of aggravating Cam Newton's injury is that high, then I think we would be wise in not throwing him to the wolves if he simply cannot play.  But if it is just pain Newton has to work through, then he needs to be in there.  Neither us or Tampa Bay are going to field a good offensive line and that will be the difference maker in this game.  However, with Newton in the game, banged up and all, he is able to elude defenders and in some ways nullify how poor the offensive line may play while McCown does not have that kind of athleticism and neither would Newton's potential replacement.  So while we certainly could win with Anderson, our chances with Cam are a lot higher.

Regardless, my point is Anderson has never been a good quarterback.  He had a solid 8-game stretch and that was it (keep in mind Kellen Winslow and Braylon Edwards were still really good players back then until injuries killed Winslow and drops became an even bigger issue for Edwards).  McCown had a similar stretch in 2013 too, doesn't mean anything to me.
