hills speed completely changes the offense. the amount of attention defenses will have to pay to him alone will be a bigger benefit than anything cotchery or avant are going to bring. the #2 receiver isn't going to do much regardless in this offense so just put hill out there. coach him up. let him get a catch here and there but mostly use him as a decoy to draw coverage

 

I agree, but it goes back to what some people have said all along about Hill, he's still raw and has trouble getting off the line and breaking coverage.  Because of this, he's not much of a decoy because he has a hard time getting behind defenses.  Give him a year or so with Proehl and what you said becomes a legit though.

Hill may not need that much time to learn how to get separation off the line. The new point of emphasis this year, restricting DBs hand play in contact could really benefit wide-outs like Hill in getting separation off the line.

Good point, he still has things to worry about with his hands and route running (I mean, he's about as raw as they come), but he also has things you can't teach (IE size and speed).  I do have high hopes for him down the line.

Per his own words, Gettleman doesn't do position quotas.

Obviously you have to pay some attention to the numbers (i.e. can't keep four offensive linemen) but beyond that his practice is to keep whomever he feels are the best 53. That's why when you see team transactions, the addition/subtraction isn't always from the same position group.

Thats also why versatility is so sought after. Makes it easier to not be worried about those quotas.

KB had inconsistencies catching the ball in college.  He seems to have corrected, to a large degree, that issue.  Recently he said in an interview, "You catch the ball with your eyes." 

 

I have to assume that this is Proehl's influence.  If he can teach this to Hill, maybe the solution to his problems (drops, body catching) is at hand.

Some of KB's ahem "inconsistencies" in college were also overrated.

 

Too many people focused on the receiver KB was when he first arrived at FSU, instead of the receiver he became at the end. So much of this stuff was already eliminated, or really wasn't a big deal (losing concentration during blow outs). If they draft was held next year, he would have been a top 10 pick.

 

Saying all that: It does seem that Proehl is a good teacher, who has respect. So one hopes that can be transferred to Hill. Hopefully, he'll be as good a student as KB?

That's the key.  How coachable is the kid?  If he sponges it up like KB did, and it transfers to the field, he changes everything.  I think at that point, we'd be a top 5 offense.  I'm expecting the same Hill from NY, but I'm hoping that's not what we get.

The Panthers just took a flyer for minimal risk and cost, and we'll see what happens?

Ok, so I have a legit question that I honestly want clarification on. Why is it so bad that WRs catch with their body? Have their been any succesful WRs that have catched with their body throughout their career? This isnt a question trying to defend it or defending Hill, I never actually played football and sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but what is so wrong with body catching vs hand catching?

I don't see any indication that a "poo storm" would happen. Most every post that I have read, states that this is a no lose situation for us . I do not think there will be any drama if Hill Doesn't pan out.

I don't think people really understand how many times receivers catch the ball with out their eyes. Yes it's a good trait to have and obviously if Stephon Hill had this trait prolly wouldn't have been released by the Jets. Reason I said this is because there has to be more to his mistakes of dropping the ball then just looking it in. AJ Green even says he doesn't look the ball in he says "it's just a 'feel' thing".

 

But for what it's worth I think Stephon Hill will be a great addition once we can get him up to par and he moves to the regular roster. Ricky Prohl will get him what he needs and his skill set is unteachable. I can just imagine him and KB will be one of the most unique #1 and #2 receiver duos.
