Stephen Hill First Impressions

Technically, he doesn't have to be Jerry Rice to be a third or fourth receiver, which is what I think his role will remain. I don't see him ascending higher (which is fine, you need those guys too).

I'm not saying he will, but he has the potential to be higher than a #3 or #4 in the future. By future I mean in a couple of seasons, not this season.

Whether he ever gets there is another question, but he has amazing physical tools.

See you just said AE should've been cut long before. So are you saying you knew more than the coaches and GM at the time? Not saying you've said that, but that tends to be what everyone says in these types of arguments. We watch the games, we can see who is good and who isn't. Which is why I know Byron Bell sucks and Bersin hasn't proven anything yet, while being overhyped, and Hill has tons of potential that will exceed Bersin if he can drop the bad habits.

 

It's opinion.

 

No coach or personnel guy in the league is right all the time, but they will always have more experience, training and access to direct knowledge that we won't.

 

That, plus they can't cherry pick which decisions they make.  They have to decide on every single player while we can just sit here and talk about who we want and ignore the rest.  Add in that none of our decisions are made with our employers money and cap considerations don't affect us.

 

Are there times when I've been right and the team's been wrong?  Sure.but when it's all said and done they'll still be professionals and I'll still be a fan on a message board.

Bersin couldn't beat out Armanti Edwards for a roster spot.

True, but he also didn't match the preseason production of Taye Biddle in 2007, so. . . it kind of doesn't matter until he does something in the regular season.

Over four seasons, a total of 5 catches for 121 yards, with 82 of that coming on one play and the other four combining for 39.

 

To be clear, his receiving stats all came in a single year (specifically 2012, his third season).  He did also contribute two rushes for 12 yards in his first two, one rush in each season.

 

That's the standard Brenton Bersin has to meet in order to contribute more than Armanti as a wide receiver.

Oh, we'll get our Victor Cruz/Josh Cribbs someday. Gettleman seems better at undrafted free agency than most, so maybe it will be sooner than later.

for what it's worth, if 89 is in Carolina this year he eats Stephen Hill alive. with him elsewhere maybe Hill will get a little more breathing room to find his way than he would otherwise. and more breathing room than maybe some other young WRs got during Smith's tenure.

If 89 was here, Benjamin is stuttering in the locker room corner as a non-factor, Cam is talking to the media in a monotone voice about how he needs to get better and Stephen Hill landed in Charlotte, met Steve at the baggage carousel and took the next flight to BFE.

It's about the 53, not "me".

 

Nobody cares what I think, but I will say it anyway...give Ricky this year and next year's OTA's and preseason and Hill can be our #2.  Not expecting much this year.

It seems like his strengths coming out of college became his weaknesses in the NFL. Sounds like coaching, QB play, and situation are to blame.

The question is... Is he ruined like (the QB) Carr was with Houston?

hills speed completely changes the offense. the amount of attention defenses will have to pay to him alone will be a bigger benefit than anything cotchery or avant are going to bring. the #2 receiver isn't going to do much regardless in this offense so just put hill out there. coach him up. let him get a catch here and there but mostly use him as a decoy to draw coverage
