You rock Byron!

Though I have yet to see Bell perform sufficiently enough to earn the LT position, those that incessently point out his flaws need to remember that criticizing his candidacy is problematic for a couple reasons. First, you are arguing that Gettleman, who I believe we all respect, is ignorant when it comes to Bell's abilities. So announcing that Bell is not worth a starting position is the equivalent of saying Gettleman and Rivera are not smart enough to realize Bell's inabilities. Second, you are arguing that the team, who support Bell, is either scared to speak up in the organization (if they dont have faith in him) or blindly follow the GMs lead, despite their best judgments.

Call it blind faith, but I have every reason to believe that Gettleman and Rivera want to win a Superbowl. If they believe Bell is the man who can get them there, than I have no reason to doubt them yet. I cannot imagine a scenerio where both the coach and GM intentionally put a subpar player on the roster and risk the quarterback's health.

I will withhold my judgment of Bell until I see how he does these first few games.

I don't think it's a matter of DG not knowing how to evaluate talent. I think he knows Bell is average at best. He's not going to announce that to the press.

I also don't think DG is trying to put together a bad team on purpose or intentionally trying to get Cam killed. It's simply a matter of not finding a better option given our draft position and salary cap issues.

I see your point. I agree that Bell is an average LT, and that we do not have the cap space to grab a top tier LT. That should certainly be a factor in this discussion.

My point, not addressed directly to you since you seem not to be on the hate-Bell-bandwagon, is that while Gettleman and Rivera are aware of the limits of Bell, they see enough in him to promote him to one of the most important positions in the league.

I guess my argument rested on Bell being the best available player for the position, according to Gettleman and Rivera. Which I think you agree with to an extent. He may not be a top tier LT, but he is better than all the other available options, again according to the decisions made by the Front Office.

I am only saying that if both Gettleman and Rivera have enough faith in him, and the team supports him, why are fans cursing him out, while hailing Gettleman for his abilities to see potential talent at other positions?

Because me trying out for the Panthers makes Byron better? fuging illogical bs. He's still a 2nd or 3rd stringer talent on any other team regardless what I do.

There's no way too prove that.  I'd bet you big money though that if Byron decides to depart when his contract is up he would be starting for whatever team picked him up barring injury.  Velasco started for the Steelers, and Hangman started for the Bills.  If you honestly think that Bell wouldn't be the starter on any other team in the NFL except us....you're one big massive uneducated troll.

I think Bell might turn out ok on the left, but for everyone saying people are just talking out of their ass about Byron, take this into consideration:

Byron graded a -9 overall according to PFF this preseason. That is 136th out of 141 tackles that took a snap this preaseason. Only one player (Cyrus Kouandjio) had a worse grade and made a 53 man roster.

Of course those grades have to be taken with a grain of salt, he played mostly against 1s where others where playing against backups, but it's still something to chew on.
