Why Hornets should make move for Jeff Green article

Charlotte is middle of the pack now. Adding Green elevates them to the top.

The time to win is now. Big Al ain't young. Kemba's contract is running out. Lance is on a relatively short term deal.

If you follow this plan, the team will have to go through another rebuild in a few years time.

Big Al isn't young, but Noah, Biyambo, and Zeller are.  Let them develop and see where the team is at a few years from now.

Lance and Kemba may have short contracts, but why wouldn't they consider resigning here in Charlotte?  If the team continues it's gradual rise to the top, then it will be a great place to play.  If the crowds come out and support the team like in the past Hornets era, the right players will land here.

Green may provide an added element, but at what cost to the future of the team?  Everyone wants to dump Zeller or Henderson, but those guys could be monumental to building a successful team.  Let's face it.  Cleveland is a star studded team.  It will be very, very difficult to compete with them on star power.  However, if we develop the young talent, then this team could take down any competitor.

Charlotte needs to be careful to not turn into the next Indiana.  Trying to reach for the stars too soon could land us in a spot the team is familiar with.  Middle of the pack and nowhere to go but down.  I don't believe Cho rebuilt the team the way he did to only buy back the same type of squad.  Let's see what these young guys have and evaluate.  Give players like Lance Stephenson and Kemba a chance to be leaders.

I would gladly take two ECF's in a row.

Henderson is a backup now, at a loaded position, with one of those players (PJ) being one of your forementioned players of the future. I like GH, but his $6mil a year could be better put to use upgrading a position that is much less solid. The 3 and 4 are clearly our weakest spots. A player like Green, who is apparently available for the right price, is a huge upgrade over what we have now, is proven and just beginning the prime of his career. He does little to stunt the growth of out younger guys because the reality is none of those younger guys have earned starter minutes to date. I would gladly throw a deal out for Green equivalent to Hendo, Biyombo, and a future pick. The salaries matchup, and we keep all of our key young assets in MKG, Zeller, Vonleh, Taylor, and PJ. You don't want to be TOO young - that's plenty of youth to build on for a while. Now is the time to start gradually switching from youth mode to win now mode. The future picks become alot more expendable when you have a team built for the playoffs for the foreseeable future, and also a young nucleus providing a lunch off the bench.

1.) Kemba / Brian Roberts

2.) Lance Stephenson / Gary Neal / PJ

3.) MKG / Jeffrey Taylor

4.) Jeff Green / Marvin Williams / Vonleh

5.) Al Jefferson / Cody Zeller / FA Pickup

How can you look at that lineup and say you're sacrificing the future for Jeff Green? If anything, it makes us an immediate legit contender on paper, with solid starters at every position, and a tremendous amount of young talent coming off the bench to contribute. That roster would challenge in the East for the duration of Green/Jefferson/Lance's contracts (2-3 years)...at which point the younger guys should be developed enough to where we know which direction to go from there. Win-win, perfect storm in my eyes. Go after Jeff Green, MJ!!

Boston's Backcourt:

PG: Rajon Rondo - last year of 12mil deal

PG: Avery Bradley - just signed monster 4 yr/ 7mil deal

PG: Marcus Smart - just drafted him

SG: Marcus Thorton - just traded for him (on last year of 8mil deal)

SG: James Young - just drafted him

and we are supposed to convince them to take Hendo for Green?

You listed two SG's. One is a rookie who has never played a game (Young). The other they just traded for, and owe $8.6 mil to this year (Thornton). Did you see what they 'traded for him"? They essentially sent nothing (a non guaranteed 2nd round pick) in return for Thornton's expiring contract, a future 1st, and Tyler Zeller. That's how bad Thornton's contract is. He averaged single digits last year and likely won't start for the C's even if they don't acquire GH from us. So in short, yes, I believe Gerald Henderson would be attractive to them. Particularly if packaged with a younger talent and a pick. GH and Jeff Green are pretty similar in terms of overall talent, value, experience, etc. It's just that we have a greater need at the 3/4 and they are log-jammed at those positions and could use an upgrade at the 2.

Biyambo is one of the most improved players for the Hornets and is finally gaining size to push people around in the paint.  Why would we draft Biyambo, let him develop, and then just throw him out for Green?

Also, take a look at this article from 2012 calling Green a 'horrific defender' at the Power Forward position.  redsarmy.com/2012/08/24/stats-show-jeff-green-to-be-horrific-defender/

Who is going to be worth more as a player to the Hornets in 2 years?  maybe even this year?  How will Green guard Kevin Love?

I just don't see any trade that's will be worth it to bring in Green.  Charlotte has finally accumulated some nice pieces and I believe waiting for the right free agents is the best course of action.  Build a team that is able to compete and knock out Cleveland.
