Gettleman is #22 (behind, among others, Dave Caldwell of the Jaguars and Martin Mayhew of the Lions) and Steele believes he'll be "on the hot seat" is we have a losing season this year.

Heard the local sports guys talking about this.  IMO he doesn't have anything to worry about this season. The team has a competitive young core assembled (some carry over from Hurney) and Gettleman has made quite a few tough decisions in removing some of the cap constraints (all carried over from Hurney) plaguing the team.

I will give him credit for #1 (Ozzie Newsome) and #32 (Jerry Jones) but inbetween is a whole lotta 'ummmmm'

It is easy to just look at a team on the surface and see what players were lost, and what players were added,and form an opinion off of that.  In my opinion that is a very incomplete way to judge the job he has done.

 

DG took over a bad team with a terrible cap and in the first year went 12-4 without mortgaging the future.  I hope the success of last year doesn't lead to his downfall.  Anybody with any idea of how the salary cap actually works would understand that he is working with some constraints that were left to him from the previous regime.

 

It will be interesting to see how he navigates the next few years.  All we have seen so far is him being frugal (by necessity).  I  am curious how he handles some of the  big contracts coming up.
