Was thinking about this last night...why do they always start games with the same predictable playcall when everyone knows it's coming. One possibility came to mind...perhaps Shula sees this as an "attitude" play for the offensive line, backs, etc. Offensive linemen don't attack when it's a pass. They fall back in protection mode. Maybe the coaches prefer to set a more aggressive tone for the line, even knowing they aren't likely to get much out of it.

 

Not saying I agree with this philosophy, but something along these lines may be the rationale.
