Saints cut a WR many thought as a predraft sleeper

I disagree, Brees makes those WR's. I'd take Coleman here in a heartbeat.

That's also why I'm concerned about him. If you have a quarterback like Brees who can make an average receiver a great one and you cut him, you have to think about it twice...

Why?

As much as they are criticized... This is the best WR lineup the Panthers have rostered in YEARS!!!

sent from my iPhone using the Carolina Huddle app

I am going to repeat it in this thread: Our WR corps is one created to just get by (largely due to Marty Hurney's legacy). Saying that we have our best WR corps in years does NOT move me in the slightest iota.  Our WR corps has been sub par for YEARS, and just because we upgraded from souse meat to Spam doesn't mean that we should be all giddy about it.

KB is the only reason why our WR corps is any where near solid.

We need to do better by Cam in order to keep opposing defenses honest, for sure, but this would also keep Cam honest in that fans' would easily be able to evaluate Cam on his own merits as opposed to focusing on---or entering into the equation---a lack of play-makers at the position.

Look at the Saints depth at WR. They're only going to keep a certain amount of them (just like every team). Who would they dump at WR to keep him on? Coleman didn't have any chance to make the team.

When they inked him as an UDFA, I was excited because I felt like he could have been drafted. His size and athleticsm combo excite you. However, outside of his body, nothing makes this guy an NFL receiver. He's stiff. I mean like robot stiff. Nothing he does is fluid. And he can't catch. He dropped everything thrown his way in games. He struggled with drops all throughout camp.

I'm not saying he will never be anything in the NFL because I don't like to speak in definitive terms, but he didn't look like a good prospect to me when I got to watch him in games.

Really?  That's a shame.  His videos from college games didn't look that stiff or anything and he seemed to have good hands too.  Maybe it's still just too fast for him.  Oh well.  Thanks for the input.

Brandon Coleman has cleared waivers and signed with the Saints practice squad. So he'll be practicing and training with the Saints all season and could potentially develop into a replacement down the road for 31-year-old Marques Colston (6-4/225 lbs, drafted 4th-to-last in 2006 draft)

Saints kept 5 WRs on their 53 man roster

-age 31 Marques Colston, 7th R 2006

-age 20 Brandin Cooks, 1st R 2014

-age 22 Kenny Stills, 5th R 2013

-age 25 Nick Toon, 4th R 2012

-age 26 Joe Morgan, undrafted in 2011 out of D2 Walsh University, 4.40 forty at NFL combine, 4.38 at pro day, before the draft NFL.com called him a "developmental, big-play receiver prospect with a potentially high ceiling." He was injured last season but in 2012 he finished #4 of Saints receivers in both yds and TDs (after WR Colston, WR Moore and TE Graham), finishing season with 379 yds, 3 TDs on only 10 catches (a whooping 37.9 yards per catch and one TD every 3.33 catches)

Saints blogger:

"Brandon Coleman Has a Big Future With the New Orleans Saints

...

Coleman has always had the talent to be a great player, but now in New Orleans, he will receive the coaching and structure he needs to really reach his full potential. If everything goes as planned, Coleman will have a very big future with the Saints. ... Coleman's best football is still ahead of him. ... with time, Coleman should be a great receiver for the Saints."
