That's a long ass time. Bush was still president. The stock market hadn't crashed yet. Steve Smith was suspended, while Jake Delhomme and Dante Rosario were heroes.

Why do you think Week 1 vs. Tampa Bay will be different? I personally don't. I see us going 11-5 this year, but I think we lose Week 1.

the marksets were already crashing by that time. hell in jan of that year the country started losing jobs. by that summer we were already bailing out banks, and the sub prime mortage crash was in full swing. a week after that game I think we freddymae died actualling.

Why?  Because we have a better football team.  We outscored them by nearly 40 points last year and it could have been worse.  There are many new faces and new dynamics to be sure but our front 7 is even better and we still have Cam, our two time Pro Bowl 25 year old QB who I feel better now than earlier in the week about being ready to go.  And they have Josh McCown-again, 35 years old, never remotely sniffing the Pro Bowl with 9 teams including the Hartford Colonials.

So your whole rationale is based on the fact that we haven't won the opener in 5 years. No other factors, circumstances or other considerations offered.

Great post...

Fair point. I think the team and coaching staff starts slow under Rivera in the best of times. A revamped offensive line and set of receivers will take a few weeks to adjust to. I can already see the 3 and outs coming in the 1st quarter with Cam being sacked at least 2 or 3 times.

Much better, but I hope you're wrong.

Everyone seems focused on concerns about the offense. I have watched teams move the ball a little too easily against our first team D during the preseason, so that is something to watch going forward.

I think we break the cycle this year and get the W at Tampa. Detroit will probably be a bit tougher.

Our "first team D" hasn't played together yet.  And what we did have out there against Tom Brady in the first and early second quarter held the Pats pretty much in check and a goose egg last night.  And FYI, Josh McCown is no Tom Brady.

    • It's sort of funny you guys were so bad with 3s tonight about the same time Silver and LeBron both say the game is broken due to too many 3 attempts. The NBA is almost unwatchable. No defense, refs call fouls for almost anything, guys care more about looking pretty on the court than playing tough, etc. Today's NBA is putrid.
    • It's gotten more complicated with the change of CBS and FOX no longer being exclusive AFC/NFC partners From a home team perspective, the NFL requires the home market (which is typically the broadcast reach of the station airing the game) to carry the game. For times where there is a conflict (let's say, FOX Charlotte is airing some major news event) then the broadcast will go to a local station that FOX Charlotte has an arrangement with -- like the CW, maybe.  Only in super-rare instances would local FOX throw the game over to a major competitor like to WSOC/ABC. But it could happen This is how games that are "exclusive" to streaming will end up being broadcast by a local channel in those home team markets -- because the NFL wants the local market to be able to see the game.  Amazon TNF games will always be available on some local channel in those teams' markets, for example. Or the upcoming Netflix games For TV markets that do not have a local team, then the local station gets to choose from what's available. Ideally, they'd choose a regional game or one that is close in the conference.  In Atlanta, for example, we would typically get one of the NFC South matchups for times when the Falcons aren't playing.
