NFL :domestic violence first offense..6 games ...lifetime ban 2nd offense

If they try to put 6 games on Hardy, he'll have a good case against it because it was pre-altercation.

I still don't think Hardy gets convicted though, there is a lot of odd stuff in that case.

The way the court system is in America, men are fighting an uphill battle when a woman makes allegations.   Just a call without evidence can get a guy locked up in NC at least.  I seen it with my brother and his ex-wife.  So this will be hard to deal with, not all these cases will have a clear video like Ray Rice.

I wouldn't rule out signing Hardy back, especially if he dominates.  How could we let him go after that?  We'll have some leverage if he actually gets convicted.

I totally agree with all points. I can't believe he got convicted in the first place with all the contradicting Holder did to herself. I think when the appeal verdict comes down he'll be straight.  I also really hope we resign him because 15 sacks (and I bet he gets even more this year) is pretty darn rare and should not be taken for granted.

I do wonder how much gray area there is in this?  If my wife or girlfriend is beating on me, and I grab her and push her away,  in some states that is domestic violence.  Does that guy get the same punishment as a Ray Rice type of situation?

I would just like to see them use some common sense and make the penalty appropriate for the crime, I am not really sure that there is a need for a blanket policy such as this appears to be.

Goodell can do what he wants as far as fines but they can and will be appealed given they are not specifically negotiated in the CBA but were inexplicably agreed upon by the players association.  Still any punishment is not like with drugs where the punishment is spelled out and agreed upon in the CBA.  Goodell is doing this to make a point but honestly it is nothing new.  All this does is announce that he screwed up with Rice and will be handing out bigger punishments.  It doesn't mean they are binding and won't be changed or appealed.

@AdamSchefter: Key phrase in new domestic violence policy sent to NFL owners: "These disciplinary consequences apply to all NFL personnel." ALL personnel.

So, what if at Christmas Jim Harbaugh gives Jon a charlie horse and a noggie and say Jon calls the police?

Will the noggie be considered a second offense?

The NFL needs clarity, cus Christmas is right around the corner.

I am not talking about the court, but the punishments the NFL hands down.

Edited to add, there is some gray area.  From Goodell's letter on the subject.

with consideration given to mitigating factors, as well as a  longer suspension when circumstances warrant
