NFL :domestic violence first offense..6 games ...lifetime ban 2nd offense

Open season to grab an NFL player by the balls and tell him to pay up or else.

If I was in the NFL I would stay the hell away from all women until I retired. Abstinence is the only true deterrent.

And this is the point right here...

When you set this kind of precedent, the money hungry will take advantage of it. So, how many NFL players will be extorted for how much money now because of this rule?

And to those that say, well just don't hit a woman - I don't think you have to anymore. You have to prove that you didn't if she says you did. Not many players would be willing to put their careers (millions of dollars) in the hands of 12 strangers. Just pay the "ransom" and be done with it.

This almost assures me carolina will not pay up to keep hardy. Enjoy him this year

Would this not make him cheaper to sign for us?  Just from a football side of things, we could get a great deal to keep him here long-term.

Open season on NFL players.   Any woman can attempt to beat the heck out of an NFL player,  and if he dares throw her off him or tries to restrain her...then it's an automatic strike one in a two strike system.   - unless -  he chooses to pay her off.

That will especially be the case if the NFL opts to punish Hardy before the jury trial takes place.    Since then it lets all NFL players know that it doesn't matter the situation,  or the circumstances...the female will always get the favorable ruling....  so pay the woman or risk losing his career.

There's a 3rd option: stop hanging around the type of women who are after you for your fame and for your money.

Not like every woman is easy to read in the beginning.    Unless an NFL player met a woman before he became a big name or started making good money,  then every woman he meets after has the potential to only be after him/with him for his fame and money.

If you can't differentiate from the kind of women who have the potential of going bat poo crazy and the ones who won't then you deserve to be in that situation.

Anyway, I agree that punishments for domestic violence need to be much higher (the 2 game suspension for Rice is a joke). But I don't agree with predetermining punishment. There are many different scenarios and degrees of violence/assault, punishment should be determined on a case by case basis.

Yeah but the NFLPA lawyers would/should appeal that in court because the arbitration rules that they agreed to follow under the CBA just changed on the spot.

IMO, if I get a speeding ticket and the fine is $300 and then in between my violation date an my court date it goes up to a year in jail instead, I would argue that I would have been a lot less likely to commit the violation under those stricter penalties.

Again I understand it isn't a court of law, but lawyers would get it into an actual court of law quickly I would think.

I doubt getting banned a few more games would help prevent domestic abuse. If they could control their anger then they wouldn't be in that situation to begin with.

    • When we drafted Luke, we already had Cam, Smith, Olsen, Stewart, Deangleo, Gross, Kalil, CJ, Hardy, Beason, TD, Gamble (and maybe more I'm forgetting), we had a lot of great pieces in place. Going pure BPA for a player with Luke's potential when the LB you already have is different when you already have all those pieces in place.  Our OL right now is probably in a better shape than that team and our RBs and TE have potential compared to proven vets back then, but after that, the 2012 roster was in a far better shape than we are right now. We need a #1 WR, DEs, LBs, DBs, C, and depending who you ask a QB.  Going BPA at pick #5 when that player is a DT and your current best player on either side of the ball is a DT, seems irresponsible. If he's the only player they like that high left, then you trade back and go with position of more need at a slot that makes sense for the player while adding other picks.  If you trade back and he falls because other teams don't need/want a DT, then you consider him at that point because of the value.
    • This sounds like the same back and forth when we drafted a LB when we already had a LB or as mentioned prior back to back DLs. I want the BPA, if it is another DT so be it. (No not a kicker/punter for those people that think they are funny))
