For Those Concerned about Cotchery and Avant:

He had 10 TD's last season, on 46 receptions- best % in the league. Not bad for a WR at 31. He's a solid possession receiver, as is Avant. Both have proven they belong on the field.

It would have been nice if Cam could have spent a lot of time throwing to the vets who are new to the team, but as Rivera said, they needed to find out who's best to fill out the bottom spots on the WR corp.

Touchdowns are rarely predictive unless you are a Calvin Johnson or some other mammoth receiver. He never got double digits or really even approched it previously. I would chalk it up to a fluky year more than anything. I believe the only reason he had such a large role on offense last season was because of multiple injuries. I don't think he was their designated red zone target or anything.

The fact that it's not there and it's the 4th preseason game=not good.

i agree. but my view is more along the lines of "not satisfactory." someone said that they believe Cam's chemistry will improve quickly with his receivers when the games matter and i agree. it may only take a few series to get in some sort of offensive rhythm, and it will only take a few games before Cam is comfortable with this particular group of receivers. unlike past groups, these guys will actually catch the fuggin ball if Cam puts it on or near target. we may see two three and outs in the Tampa opener before our offense gets in rhythm, much like the KC preseason game. not good will be if i am wrong and Cam cant get anything to his receivers starting in week 4. i honestly dont forsee that happening.

i think we can still win the first four games with an offense that still has kinks to work out. but by the time Chicago comes to town, we had better be prepared in case the game has to be a shoot out.

You can poo poo the reasons all you want. You can't argue with the results.

they will be where they are supposed to be when Cam needs them, and they are almost a sure reception. They werent brought in here to put up numbers. They are here for their leadership and their sure handedness and consistency on important downs.

Benji on the other hand is the homerun hitter, and hes on my dynasty team.

Actually he was. There were no injuries and that season wasn't a fluke. He certainly benefitted from having Heath as a red-zone presense. Sanders and Brown are not red-zone receivers, Cotch was the best on their team last year at it.

Nothing is predictive. What you hope is that it is a solid indicator of future events.

If you question everything, you will probably find something to worry about. Will this happen? Will they do well? Will they, is a gateway to negativity.

How about going the other direction? Why not. Why not us? Teams go through things like this all the time, and still find a way to be successful. Loose multiple starters? Other players step up. Have inexperienced players, maybe they surprise you. Why not us?

We don't need All Pro level play from our WR, or any other player, all we need is for them to do their job(s). This is a team sport, the ultimate one at that. We have one of the best coaching staffs in the game. We have talent all over the field. Why not us?

Just because some of our positions are unknown, does not make them unable to perform.

If the Panthers could establish a running game (even an average running game) then the Cam chemistry to new WR's will be a much easier transition.  Cam started in the NFL with very little practice with his WR's due to the lockout, and he played 'lights out' his first few games.  The Panthers need a healthy Stewart and Tolbert to ground & pound.

In a normal year I may agree with you. But this has not been a normal year. You do have to take into account the lack of practice Cam has had. The more they play together, the better they will be.

I guess folks are losing faith in Cam. I can't think of another reason folks are worried about our passing game. Cam has shown he can get the job done. Is he all of a sudden going to lose his abilities?

You can thump your chest and say "ten touchdowns" all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that Cotchery has never been that guy any other year of his career, even when he actually was a legitimate starter.

It's not like last year was 10 years ago. Last year was last year. I suppose your point (which really should apply to this year, and not "any other year of his career") is that between last season and this one, his ability to catch the ball in traffic has taken a huge dive and he'll be totally ineffective. I obviously disagree.

And why would you think I thump my chest about anything? That particular activity never enters my mind. I guess that's your attempt at a put down. Weak. You'll be better off (assuming you really do have a valid point in the discussion) sticking to the topic, as I did, vs. getting personal.
