Bit of a wive's tale...nothing automatic about it and it will vary by game and team.

 

Theoretically the home team will have some advantage in general (not have to travel, crowd noise) but compare a team travelling to QWEST field for a rivalry matchup to the Steelers travelling to Bofa where they have more fans. Some teams will actually have points taken away for being at home.

 

I doubt the handicappers moved the line much for Tampa's home field advantage but who knows. They don't sell out and it is a short trip for Carolina.
