He's the most tenured Panther in the secondary. I have no problem keeping around and giving him another shot in a reserve role to begin with. He knows the defense and whether people want to admit it or not, he is a leader on the defense... something we need in the secondary very, very badly.

Forget Godfrey supporters...what this tells every Panther fan is that we're clearly f*cked at the safety position.

we are very much that.  we need Decoud to miraculously come back to pro bowl form and maybe Boston can be a gem.  Thankfully, we have never really depended on our safeties to be more than just the last line of defense, other than the occasional blitz.

Godfrey will be here because it will cost over 5 million to cut him so you might as well find some place to play him. That is more than his yearly salary for 2014.

I've liked Bene a lot, but Rivera's love for Godfrey has been hard to ignore... he's a guy that on most teams would have been cut this offseason... instead he was given a second chance, and now a third if the move to S is true

Yes but at safety he can play either position and he is probably better than any safety on our roster, outside of our starters. We don't see his leadership in the locker room. There may be a few variables like leadership that make him valuable beyond our measure.

Good. I think we can all agree Godfrey is a better option over Russell and Lester... I think we roll with Harper, Godfrey, Decoud, Jones, and Boston.

with nickel becoming the base defense of many NFL teams, Godfrey could find a lot of snaps at both S and NB. he's experienced and can be a communicator in the secondary. he's likely going to be in a sub role wherever he is, so it makes sense to get him burn at both spots. plus with injuries, the stability he can bring week to week may come in very handy. take into consideration his salary and the dead money if he's cut, and it's easy to see how he's going to fit on the 53 come Saturday.

Godfrey was improving at FS before he was injured... I think this says more about his failure to make the transition to CB.
