He was always a hitter instead of a tackler. Now he's coming off an Achilles tear, which has an effect on that explosion needed to hit.

Good. I think we can all agree Godfrey is a better option over Russell and Lester... I think we roll with Harper, Godfrey, Decoud, Jones, and Boston.

To be clear, Godfrey supporters might want to think twice before seeing this as a good thing for him.

 

Implicit in the move to corner was an acknowledgement that he wasn't doing that great at safety (and quite possibly wouldn't make the squad there).  The idea of the position switch was to give him a way to succeed at his new spot where he hadn't succeeded at the old one.

 

Moving him back now carries with it the implication of "well, that didn't work so well". 

 

Granted, it could be primarily because of injuries, but giving up on an 'experiment' this quickly usually isn't a positive sign.

Forget Godfrey supporters...what this tells every Panther fan is that we're clearly f*cked at the safety position.

I think this just gives him a better shot at hanging on for a while. I'd be surprised if he's a Panther next season. And I think the move is more about 'we need help at safety' than about protecting Godfrey in any way.

I was wondering if our coaching staff was ever going to convert/cut Godfrey back to safety and give Bene the nickle back spot. Thank god.

In hindsight, would John Fox choose rookie like Bene over a vet like Godfrey?
