Slow developing plays. There are ways to disguise a bad o-line. We did it a -lot- during our winning streak in the middle of last season. Then got cute and stopped to end the year and in the playoffs. No surprise we started losing more then.

We won 11 of our last 12.

I also thought our first half of the 49er game was solid.....I have no clue how we weren't winning going into half. I hate blaming refs but that first half was some poo poo.

If we are talking about preseason I would have to say quarterback coming off of injury and new receivers.  So I guess chemistry should be my answer.  With that being said it is preseason so it is really hard to know what the coaches were hoping to achieve in each situation.

 

If we are talking about last year I would say philosophy.

Sometimes OCs are handcuffed by HCs.  Not saying that is or isn't the case.

The passing game is lacking a true number one. One true number one is better than 4 slot receivers.

Game 1 - video game grab

Game 2- solid outing against good D....number 1 production if Cam doesn't miss him wide open deep

Game 3 - posterizes Revis one on one.

He is raw but dude is nasty. You don't have to be fine tuned to be a number 1....you can just be a physical beast too

It is a combination of things...OL, chemistry, AND Cam.

Considering how good Cam has been, it's frightening (for other franchises) to think of how much growth he has yet to make in a number of areas. Throwing it to the guys he can trust to beat their man with NFL level consistency is not one of these issues.

To answer the question, it is a little bit of everything

 

Alright. So, where are the Panthers struggling in the passing game outside of Cam's occasional overthrow?

 

Based on preseason the Panthers are #2 in receiving avg, #2 in 20+ yard receptions, and #5 in 1st down receiving %, but who would care to look at that. BTW those are all improvements and other teams have thrown the ball twice as much as the Panthers in preseason. The Panthers passing game looks better than the Saints and Broncos in the preseason. You can thank Benjamin, Bersin, and Swole for that feat.

 

But we all know the talking point... the Panthers receivers suck. The passing game sucks. They have no one to throw to. Look at the numbers and stop buying into the negative garbage all over the place. It is rotting your brains.

 

At the moment, the Panthers look to have one of the most efficient and effective passing games in the NFL. And we have all seen every DB get frustrated covering Benjamin. And Benjamin has had 2 and 3 defenders converging on him and still makes the catch. The Panthers may not pass it much under Shula, but when they do for a first down or in the red zone you can bet they are going to convert it more than most NFL teams. Also, the passing game being efficient and taking chunks will open up the running game.

 

Now think. Are you comparing the Panthers passing game to the rest of the league and the defenses they will face in 2014, or are you comparing them against perfection?

 

So, back to the original question, what is wrong with the passing game?

KB looks like he is going to be able to handle more than I original thought....

I think 800-900 yards, 9 TDs is realistic for him

KB is a legitimate number 1. The problem is the same problem we had when 89 was here. There isn't much else outside of KB

So you agree there are a lot of things he can improve on. You just prefer to place blame on other players.

The disguise was having Cam do one read, then take off, so the pocket won't collapse on him. 

 

If you folks were honest to yourselves, u'd admit that it was Cam's legs that made it possible for the offense to win like they did last season.

 

This season it seems as if they want Cam to be more of a pocket passer and it's killing him.
