Cam not playing Thurs, has rib injury

Newton stayed in and played afterwards. He will be fine.

BUT

with a bum ankle and now the rib there should be a LOT of cause for concern.

It's clear newton is not playing with confidence. And it will take him getting on the field and being 100% before that changes.

Horrible way to start the season.

Outside of being a tad off on some deep vertical routes....overall I think his passing game has looked pretty solid

He got injured lunging back first into a 250lb Linebacker.

…all because the pocket broke down with two backups playing at RG and RT

you can make the argument that cam shouldn't have run, or shouldn't have gone down like that, but the fact remains it was a choice he had to make as a direct result of shitty backup play

Several months back someone said that Gettleman doesnt have faith in Cam as QB of the future and is setting him up for failure. Im starting to think this might be the case. I just get this feeling Gman is cold toward Cam for some reason.

Im going to get bashed in a big way here but im going to say it because its how I feel. Gman strikes me to be very old school and I just get this strong sense that he doesnt believe in african american QBs, its honestly the impression I have always got about him. Maybe im completely wrong and its possible but its a strong feeling I get.

If Gman does really believe in Cam explain why we have did 0 to fix the O line and literally got rid of our entire WR corps

Ban pls?

cam doesn't take painkillers. he's on record saying that, but i will say this again.

Cam Newton is the toughest motherfuger on this team. Jordan Gross said in all his years in the league he has never seen somebody as tough as Cam.

he'll play week 1 and he will give us the best option to win, stirs.

You sir, are helping my nerves a bit haha much appreciated

Watch the play. Cam could have tied his shoes.

A choice that doesn't have to end with getting a knee to the back...

I doubt Rivera reveals his starter until the last minute unless the injury is pretty bad because of Lovie's preparation.

Game planning for Cam might be easier if we are going to call plays where we don't want him to run and get hit.  Bad ankle and bad ribs means he stays in the pocket.  He and DA might present the same defensive game plan at that point.

i admit i don't remember the exact play, but i'm assuming he ran because no one was open, which could've been solved by more time in the pocket, right?

and whether or not that's the case is beside the point, because the fact remains that cam's runs generally DO come after the pocket breaks down, and if our backups conceivably will cause the pocket to break down more than is reasonable, it's incumbent upon the FO to remedy the problem by searching for quality backups… which was my original point

We could go over the play with a coaches clicker but the bottom line is the oline could not have played that play more perfectly.

I understand your hope for upgrades from cuts. I'm just saying we aren't going to replace a starter from cuts. Anybody we do bring in won't be ready Week 1. So I personally would not hang my hat on that.

Coming up with conservative game plans seems more feasible. Improving the run blocking seems more feasible.
