How much do you miss Julius peppers now - oh wait : your defensive end position is soooo deep that Charles Johnson is your best player and you don't care about loosing the kraken is the offseason :)

Bc there was no public incident during there 12-4 season.....suddenly 89 is an ideal lockeroom guy?

Reports this offseason claim the FO viewed him as a distraction. Based on his past....that would make sense. The FO not bluntly saying that outright doesn't really mean much...

Reports also said they forced Gross retirement. I dont get into that source this source that. Steve production did drop off, maybe that's the reason he's no longer here along with his contract and he also had an injury. Maybe they felt his production could be replaced with less money

No they won't.  I like Steve but a 35yo WR who's receptions, yards and TD's have declined each and every year since Cam Newton got here is not going to be missed much.  As Cam has improved as a QB, Steve has declined and will continue to do so.  One good pre-season game does not a season make.  Good luck Steve and I look forward to the day that 89 is retired as a Carolina Panther.

so reports that DG was in bumfug Iowa more than twice begging gross to play for another year aren't true?

you using his past to justify actions during the present.....there aren't any reports from former teammates about last season.....you can't justify cutting someone for actions 5 years ago

Those reports are completely inaccurate.

My neighbor is a close friend of Gross and has him over to his house quite often. I asked him about the situation when he retires. He said that it was 100% Gross's decision and that he had Ben thinking about it for over a year.

He did not want to end up like so many retired OL....barely able to walk.

The past is the best predictor of the future.

And again, just bc there was no incident that came out during a 12-4 season doesn't suddenly erase all we know about him. Which is more than just jumping and cheap shotting teammates

Steve didn't decline from 2011-2012, 1100 yards and 4tds is still pretty good. The problem has been that he's no longer an elite #1 but he's a damn good #2.

Would this team be better with Smitty still around. Probably.

Could this team afford Smitty. Absolutely not.

Too many folks forget the money involved, and just remember the player. Smitty was about to make almost 30mil over the next 3 years. Yeah, let's do that. Gimps.

Gross made the decision to retire before the season even began after the pay cut. The pay cut pissed him off and is what set in motion his retirement. Gross said he didn't feel like he should take a pay cut but did so anyway, and went on to make the pro bowl. Had Gettleman not pissed him off initially he had planned to play one more year.
