I contended Deangelo is the 3rd best RB on the team

I'm really not so sure about that at this point. fozzy has run through a few tackles this preseason that Williams could not have gone through.

Fozzy just isn't as fast. Deangelo still has the ability to break a game wide open by running away from everyone. You saw it vs. the Jets and Saints last year. Deangelo had over 1100 yards from scrimmage last year, that's not terrible. But he faded late in the year which left a bad taste in everyone's mouths. I'd contend injuries to the line contributed.

I wouldn't say that D Will is the 3rd best RB on the team, in fact, I won't, he's either 1 or 2. D Will is our homerun threat. Stew and Tolbert (our FB) is better between the tackles. They need to be used to their advantage to maximize their production.

When was his last home run?

Play design.

Plus, I think people assume Williams is more explosive than he really is at this point

Again, we get back to play design. Which is Shula's problem. But, I'm not laying that all at his feet. Both Shula and DWill can go.

31 y/o RB + a scheme deadset on running through an OL with no push = what we see now from DWill.

He still could be one of the the most talented RBs in the game. But for what we do here, he just does not have the leverage over Stew and Tol.

SF, Sea, and Car all ran a lot of the same basic poo last year. It isn't sexy. Boring isn't always bad but you need the right bodies for it.

at 31 he isn't going to be one of the most talented in the game.

Take him out of our offense....at 31 he isn't one do the most physically talented at this point.

SF and Seattle both disguise what they're doing really well, with lots of motions and coverage moves, SF more so. Also, they have Frank Gore and Marshawn Lynch, which allows them to run ore efficiently.

I don't have notes in front of me and I define home run, by runs of 20 yards or more. It doesn't look promising right now, but D Will has been our horse while Stew has always been on the mend. D Will has been that production in the backfield, less fumbles and so forth. Can it be better, yes. But I haven't seen us do anything on the offensive line to cater to D Will's strengths. Yes Stew can gain more yards under the current oline and maybe so can Fozzy. But hard nose running, pounding gets you riding the bike on the sideline.

They have RBs more comparable to a healthy 28

    • This was his first season playing where he was healthy. I have never seen anyone be given more chances to get healthy than this guy. I don't know what contract he will get, but someone will be gambling that he will be available. If he could be had for back-up guard money, I'd go for him quickly, and use him situationally as an extra tight end. If he can't be, that's fine. In my fantasy scenario, we have completely remade our offense under a new and improved Bryce with an Offensive Coordinator (Canales) who finally figured out how to run the offense later in the year.  I can dream. And all of my dreams have been wrong. We will not get Warren, Skattebo, or Becton, and all three will be major contributors wherever they go.
    • He seems to be able to handle FA signings pretty well, but the draft is where a GM makes or breaks a team and the results are inconclusive at the moment.
    • There’s also a big difference between our starters and most other teams. We’ve been bottom of the barrel since second half of 2018. Drafting a “starter” here is a lot easier than drafting a starter in KC so your stat, while true, doesn’t indicate that we are draft less starters each draft and we aren’t getting impact guys outside Brown and 50% of an impact guy in Horn. After round 1, since 2018, Chubba is literally the only impact starter in 7 drafts. Thats horrific drafting and it’s why we’ve spent $270M on 2 guards, 2 DTs and 1 safety. People go to the SB when they spend that on their franchise QB, not on guards, DTs and safeties. I hope they all make the team better but overpaying positions we should be drafting and developing on the cheap is not the best way to build a contender.
