Is Rivera above...

No, he wouldn't.

I've been saying since training camp day 1 just how many "completed passes“ people were excited about were sacks in reality. Tremendous improvement needs to happen in the passing game, and quickly. Line, QB, receivers, everyone.

What honestly bothered me most about yesterday was our d-line. It was absolutely horrendous. I know CJ was out and Hardy was limited but we are supposed to have a lot of depth at DE. Short was horrible from what I saw and Star was the only bright spot. Brady had time to throw the entire game. Cam was actually okay except for a few sacks he took where he didn't have a lot of time but he absolutely had enough to time to throw it away or find a check down. KB is a beast, but Cotch and Avant were non-existent which kills me. Bell wasn't horrible but he wasn't good. Our line will probably actually be fine with game-planning and scheming, if both Chandler and Turner can stay healthy. If not, we're fuged since we have no depth anywhere on the line. Shula needs to go though. Playcalling may be the worst I've ever seen of any team in the history of the league. 1st and 10, pass with long routes that need developing... 2nd and 10, run the ball right down the middle. Somehow 3rd and 5, pass with long routes that need developing leads to 4th down. We can't be so fuging predictable and we need some quick passes to move the chains. Can't look for an 80 yard touchdown on every damn play.

The Panthers drilled their players, and the Patriots game planned. That was obvious.

Kuechly v Brady... Kuechly won.

Klein v Brady... Brady won.

Offense looked like it was all about passing reps with Cam working progressions, receiver working on routes, and the OL working on keeping a pocket for 4 to 5 seconds. Did they even run a single screen, draw, option, or sweep? Did the OL pull at all last night? Was there a single bootleg or play action? I know the Patriots did. So, was their a game plan for the Patriots? No would be my answer.

If I know one team is practicing, and the other team game planned, then I know who I would put my money on to win.

No coach is going to say I am going to throw this preseason game on purpose to humble our guys and make them work harder. They clearly tried and they clearly got beat.

Vince Lombardi did.

One time when he thought his backfield guys were letting their egos get out of control, he started the second string offensive line in a regular season game. They came out of that game a lot more humble.

Mind you, these days it'd be shocking to see that happen in a game that counted.

Then I would ask your friend (and others who agree with him/her) to impress and mention how beneficial it would be to lead your team into a preseason butt-kicking before said butt-kicking takes place.

hence my allergic reaction.

My response to him was different.

For me to believe in this, it would require that I think the team's attitude prior to last night was such that an attitude adjustment was needed.

I haven't really seen any evidence supporting that notion.

Again, I can believe he would do so if the situation warranted, but I don't think that's what happened last night.

The plan was obviously to have cam sit in the pocket and go thru his progressions, scrambling be damned. There were at least 4 or 5 times I can remember where any other time he is gone...but he sat there and either got sacked or it was incomplete. It's a goddamn practice game...emphasis on practice. Cams running ability is what makes him special. Yeah he's a good passer, but he's devastating when he runs.

We will be okay.
