Regression Doom/Gloom

This is why we don't have a line and weapons for Cam. Everybody that overlooks this info is pushing a different agenda.

When I hear "Why is Gettleman ignoring the OL?" it drives me crazy. It is like guy think like every LT that got multi-year 45 million dollar contracts were foaming at the mouth for a one year prove it deal...bc we are strapped for cash.

Like with Star at DT the right guy will come along and we will be better for it. This OL has no one in the office thinking "this is it!" for the next few seasons. It is a stop gap...and possibly adding a waiver vet in the mix. Next season is when there is some breathing room for Cam's extention and OL.

A lot of Dead money drops off and some vets get cut.

I juat want to see another trip to the playoffs, rookie development(including Bersin, Melvin White, Klien, Bell, Chandler and "swoll bones"Williams) with no expectations that we will surpass last season's performance. Anything more will be exciting and considered a bonus.

my god hurney. DG has done a great job , he isn't given near enough credit for the talent he has found so far at EVERY position. I will never agree with letting #89 go. I don't know the whole story but whatever

Exactly.. Under Hurney we had like 7-8 guys who made the final roster that were unplayable.

Now we are cutting good players at positions bc there is legitimate competetion and back end talent.

In preseason we would be going nuts for a WR that caught one decent pass and hoped he would be the number 2 WR.

The expectations are different now. The team even looks like it belongs in a fight not just a bunch of dudes you hope somehow make it happen.

I thought most of the stuff was going to be off the books after this season, is there still more??

From what I see...Stewart's contract makes him uncuttable for a bit longer than D'lo.  We lose money by cutting him this and next year so best case scenario is he somehow unleashes finally and lives up to his contract.

Not sure about elsewhere, I'm no guru on NFL contracts and the cap dealio.

http://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space is a good resourse for that kind of information.

They show us as having almost 8m in space next year.  This is based on the salary cap increasing to 140m.

One thing to keep in mind though is that they are only showing the salaries of 48 players (might have something to do with the recent cuts).  During the season all 53 roster players, plus IR, any dead money, and your practice squad count towards the cap.  Also you have to reserve some to sign your rookies.  With all of this being said I would guess we would have around 3-4 million.

The good news is that whatever cap we have left over from this year would roll over.  I think we are close to 6 million. Depending on injuries and any additions we make we should be able to roll over part of that.  Keep in mind though that most GMs try to keep some cap in reserve for injuries or unexpected opportunities.

The bad news is that these numbers include Cam at 14.6 million which might go up if we sign him to a long term deal.  Also you have several free agents that aren't included in this number, such as Hardy.

I don't claim to be a cap expert so if I missed something I am sure someone will point it out, but the website I linked earlier is a good starting point for people.

How odd that they don't seem to be aware that Wharton was signed out of desperation due to injuries. They act as though not replacing Wharton was a major mistake, when in reality we were just temporarily replacing an injured player.

They're also underestimating Jonathan Stewart.

I hate to admit that they're right about our secondary. This is the worst secondary I've ever seen in my time following this team. It's never been this bad before. The secondary is shameful. Gettleman is sure to be watching the wavier wire closely.
