Scott Fowler blog : His take from the press box

It's both viable and realistic because it's preseason. The perfect time to do something your not use to is now. Your talking like it's the 3 game of the regular season but it's not.

Then why not have him start passing with his left hand. He's never learned how to do that either and it is, after all, preseason.

If that made him a better QB sure. But making an outlandish statement vs something a lot of QBs learn are two totally separate things. You just want him to stay the same and never learn or develop anything that could help him?

Every preseason.     Cam is stiff as a board in preseason games and our fan base absolutely freaks out...then the regular season starts and he looks fluid and awesome..   This is a cycle that has repeated itself three times and every preseason  there are fans that try to make too much out of it.

Why would Cam want to go all out in a preseason game this year when he has never done it before?

Well that's kind of what happens when you roll forward with your back to an oncoming player. It's funny now because they talked about his sliding this week and then this happens. I'm not bashing Cam, just pointing out the concern.

A few stats that aren't reflected by the score-

yds. per play- 5.4 us, 6.0 them

yds per pass- 7.4       9.0

rushing yds  - 63       82

yds per rush-  2.9        2.6

penalties  - 5-26       10-63

The Pats had the ball for 5 more min. and 17 more plays. They won the passing game hands down, and with a better OL, Brady, and receivers he knows, it shouldn't be a surprise. I was disappointed in the team's performance, but I think there's room for hope.

I swear there is just no hope for some of our fans. It seemed pretty obvious that he was intentionally staying in the pocket to work on passing.

If you don't think he would be taking off with the ball if it were a regular season game then I don't know what to tell you.

This.. he's being tentative until week 1. Then the gates of hell are unleashed (or the gates of Bell, depending on how the line plays...)

Yeah Cam just kind of falls to the ground when he gets down. He's not as bad as RG3-13, but it could definitely use some work.

So let me see if I have this right. Cam has always dove forward as his slide. Been doing it his whole career. Never been hurt doing so.

Then last night he has an awkward slide, and all of a sudden he needs sliding lessons? Ah the Huddle. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

If he slid it would be fine, but he doesn't slide, he just falls. The point of the slide is the refs can clearly see you're giving yourself up and don't need touched down. That awkward fall that Cam does is not obvious and therefore he's open to getting hit like last night. If I can teach uncoordinated 10 year olds to slide properly, I would hope it wouldn't take much for an elite athlete in Cam to pick it up.
