Several markets in the Panthers tv network switched to different local affiliates this year.  That is why Pete Yannity is gone from sideline reporting (WSPA in SC has always carried preseason games until this year).

Local television markets bid for local rights. So Raleigh television stations compete with eachother and Charlotte TV stations compete with each other. Your local NBC affiliate is just that, an affiliate.

The local news team on NBC is employed by the station. Not NBC. And very rarely the channel will change broadcast partners.

We saw this in Charlotte recently when long time WCCB Channel 18 switched to The WB from Fox. And in turn WJZY Channel 46 took the Fox Broadcast rights. Fox 46 shows regular season games as part of the Fox broadcast partnership with the NFL. WB 18 shows pre season as the winning bidder for Panthers Pre Season rights. And WSOC Channel 9 shows Redskins games because they are scumbags on a dying channel.
