16 year old girl almost got kidnapped in Ballantyne in the middle of the day

Pretty damn close to Ballantyne, this happened like a mile from me in Ballantyne...

I've lived in South Charlotte for 8 years and the good areas have become smaller and smaller. It used to be nice all around here but the nice areas are shrinking. You can see it especially in the Pineville/51 area towards Johnston Rd. that's the direction the crime is moving slowly but surely.

Unfortunately the same is happening here in Mint Hill. It has slowly moved down Albermarle rd, a few days ago the gas station at the corner of 51 and Wilgrove rd. was robbed at gunpoint by three people.

And those of us living in Plaza Midwood laugh at you.

Maybe move further out and build walls

And people in West Charlotte are laughing at you.

Why laugh at living with violent crime (robberies, attempted rape)?

Plaza is paradise compared to where I use to love in Alabama. Everywhere in Charlotte looks like heaven compared to when I lived in Flint. But I was smart enough to move.

No body cares you choose to live in surrounded in it, although most of plaza really isn't that bad so you're not exactly in it. I think that makes you look incredibly stupid personally, especially if you have kids. And it is a choice.

People moving to the burbs to escape crime is laughable. Especially the 51 area which has been shady since the 90s.

Maybe my kids won't grow up in a place filled with identical mcmansions and a false sense of security.

Maybe the reason places are bad is because people are lazy and just move instead of making the community or their hood better.

Thinking the 51 area was shady in the 90s is laughable.

Seems to me neighborhood crime could be easily deterred in NC. A state with extremely liberal gun laws, where open carry is acceptable and there are plenty of George Zimmermans just waiting for the opportunity to become a gun-toting security ego.

Create a de facto HOA, get your fellow homeowners to commit to a certain monetary contribution and hire an armed security guy to patrol your neighborhood.

It's not a false sense of security, it's lower crime, thus more secure that's statistics. If your daughter became a rape victum you might care more about those 'mcmansion areas' where crimes like that are proven to be less likely. You can't escape crime, no one is trying to do that but to say you're just as likley to get raped, killed or robber in South Charlotte than say West Charlotte is not rational, not logical and not factual at all. I don't know how you'd come to this assesment.

Yes, you still have to teach your kids safety and common sense. Also I am specifically talking about violent crime here. You can bet your ass there is just as much going on in South Charlotte as East Charlotte in crime, but goes undetected or is blue collar crime. East Charlotte is the suburbs just as South Charlotte is. You're not escaping crime, you're moving to a lower crime area. Simple as that. 51 is ten times worse than a decade ago.

And I make around 30k a year and live no one where near Mansions. You may be thinking of select nighborhoods like Piper Glen, or Myers Park but to say South Charlotte or even Ballantyne is a bunch of rich people/mansions is very naieve. This is why I say it's a choice. I make half the money I did in Flint but I will never EVER go back. I choose to live in a nice area with less violent crime.

I will agree with making your own community better but it's much more complicated than that and you know it. Even if I agree I am not raising a family in a crime ridden area to prove that point. I value my family more than that belief.
