16 year old girl almost got kidnapped in Ballantyne in the middle of the day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

A 16-year-old girl was attacked by a man with a knife on a Charlotte greenway Thursday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Investigators said that around noon, the girl reported that while she was walking along a trail at the McMullen Creek Greenway, a man grabbed her from behind and forced her into a wooded area while threatening her with a knife.

The girl said she was able to fight off her attacker and he ran away. CMPD is not identifying the girl.

The suspect was described as a black or Hispanic male, approximately 25 years old, 6’0” and 190 lbs. He was last seen wearing a light blue t-shirt and khaki cargo shorts/pants

I read somewhere that many Mexican cartel members moving in this direction.  Might be related.

This has occurred three times in metro Atlanta in the last month - women being assaulted (beaten, not raped) or nearly assaulted while walking or running on various trails/paths.

Two other attempted assaults have occurred in recent weeks in other parts of the region. Attackers here have all been described as white to my knowledge.
