There are scouts from BAL, DET, HOU, KC, MIA, MIN, NYG, PIT, TB and two CFL teams at the Panthers - Patriots preseason game tonight.

I'd assume this is pretty common for preseason games? If not then damn we're special.

I have a feeling our offense is going to be a mess this season. Brand new WRs in a year our QB missed practice time while coming off an ankle injury, not to mention our O line being banged up and missing precious playing time to gel. Im a firm believer in lightning doesnt strike twice, Gettleman got EXTREMELY lucky last season signing scrub WRs and having success, I think Gettleman got cocky and thinks he can do it again. Dont think we will be as lucky this time.

Not re signing Mike Mitchell and Ginn will show to be a huge mistake. If our WR corps and secondary struggle, that will just reinforce that notion. Ginn and Benjamin would have complimented each other so perfectly. Ginn with his speed and big play potential and Benjamin for his moving the chains and down the middle catches.

Im hoping our stout D will atleast carry us to 9 or 10 wins

Patriots have three positions up from grabs: center, right guard and strong safety

CENTER - Dan Connolly, Ryan Wendell or rookie Bryan Stork.

RIGHT GUARD - Jordan Devey, Josh Kline, Marcus Cannon, or rookie Jon Halapio

**Boston Globe: "Patriots fans shouldn’t feel great about the line right now. It allowed 40 sacks last year, LT Nate Solder is struggling in camp, LG Logan Mankins is coming off an average season, two of the interior spots aren’t settled (C, RG), and Dante Scarnecchia (Patriots OL coach 2000–2013) isn’t around to patch things together....the winner of the Dan Connolly/Ryan Wendell battle at center will probably cause other dominos to fall. ...The right guard battle could come down to Connolly (if the Patriots decide to keep Wendell at center and put Connolly back at his old position), Josh Kline, Jordan Devey, or Marcus Cannon, who will likely start at right tackle tonight, with RT Sebastian Vollmer (foot) absent from practice all week."

**Patriots blog: "LT Nate Solder hasn't been his normal excellent self this preseason, LG Logan Mankins will be his solid self, but he's been up and down in recent seasons, the center and right guard still isn't determined, and RT Sebastian Vollmer has been missing practice, which places Marcus Cannon at starting right tackle. The Panthers have a terrific defensive front seven (and will be a huge challenge)."

STRONG SAFETY - Patrick Chung, Duron Harmon, Tavon Wilson...or they move over CB Kyle Arrington or CB Logan Ryan.

**Patriots.com: "After an entire spring of OTAs and mini-camp, and the first two weeks of the preseason there still doesn’t seem to be any consensus as to who the starter will be next to Devin McCourty . Tight ends gave the Patriots problems last week against Philadelphia, particularly when Patrick Chung was on the field. Perhaps Bill Belichick is leaning toward a corner manning the spot, as was the case against the Eagles when Kyle Arrington got the nod. We’ve also seen Logan Ryan there, and Duron Harmon recorded an interception last week and remains a candidate. Interested in seeing who gets the call tonight."

Patriots blog:

"Red Zone Output - Can you picture the Patriots putting Gronk (6'6), Jones (6'8), Dobson (6'3), LaFell (6'2), and Brian Tyms (6'2) on the field in the red zone? That has to result in a touchdown every time, right? Bill Belichick loves situational football so it will be fun to watch how he and Josh McDaniels manage the Patriots red zone opportunities tonight."

TE Justin Jones, age 22, 6-foot-8, 275-pounds, undrafted out of East Carolina

Boston Globe: "Justin Jones could be big surprise for Patriots... Jones, a 6-foot-8-inch tight end, looks more like an NBA power forward than a football player. Not only does Jones look like a good bet to make the 53-man roster, but it’s possible that Jones makes more of an impact on the field this year than any of the team’s nine draft picks. ... in Jones the Patriots have a huge red zone target and someone who could potentially replicate some of Rob Gronkowski’s duties while the star tight end works back slowly from his knee injury ... “Coach [bill] Belichick was really excited about me — spent several conversations with him on draft day on the phone,” Jones said. “He was just keeping me posted on what’s going on. He just really expressed the chance I would have right here, and that chance is becoming a reality now.”

Boston.com on TE Justin Jones: "His wing span reminds one of the California Condor ... his hands have been a fantastic presence throughout the offseason, building himself up a reputation as someone to watch in each practice. ... For all of Jones's size, speed, and impressive hands (how many basket catches can he make in one camp?), he still is considered raw. ... But he has improved dramatically. And as he has continued to improve in the trenches, the miraculous catches he has had have come more often. ... improving every day and making catches no one else can .. Jones, a physical freak, has made wowing plays and has bettered his blocking skills. ... it's clear that Jones is turning heads and making outstanding catches. It doesn't hurt that the rest of his game is improving, too."

tonight, QB Tom Brady and LB Jamie Collins will wear the Patriots’ green dot communication-device helmet that gives them radio communication with the coaches, meaning LB Collins will be responsible for calling signals for the defense

"We're only allowed to have one green dot on one player and then if that player wasn't in the game, then we could put it on somebody else," Belichick said. "We use it with different people in preseason, so if we get to that point during the season, we've got other guys that have experience with it. Safeties, linebackers, we've used it on different people in practices and in preseason games just for the experience of it."

Boston.com:

--"Somebody has to emerge at strong safety — It doesn't matter if it's Kyle Arrington, Duron Harmon, Tavon Wilson, Patrick Chung, or even Logan Ryan. There needs to be a definitive answer for who can and should line up opposite of Devin McCourty when the season begins. Right now, it appears this position is a weak link in an otherwise stellar secondary."

--"Who is the right guard? — Are the Patriots giving the job to Jordan Devey or Josh Kline? ... Between the two, as well as for the rest of the offensive line, there will be some difficulties with Panthers defensive tackles Star Lotulelei, Colin Cole, and Kawann Short."
