Charlotte's WSOC TV bumping Bristol race in favor of Redskins game, Panthers not happy about it

Augusta is also roughly 2:15 from Charlotte and they've been carrying the games for years. Not comparable to the Skins being shown in Charlotte.

Augusta probably doesn't have an eighth of the Panthers fans as Charlotte has Washington fans either. Until this franchise grows up these things will happen. You can either exercise your choice to not watch on Saturday night, or you can watch. That's the great thing, you have choice.

Would much rather watch a crappy Redskins game than NASCAR. I can't watch that poo for more than two minutes without being bored out of my mind.

My sentiment too honestly. I would rather watch High School football tbh. Also are we sure that this wasn't a $ decision made by parent company Cox, or that they didn't at the very least pressure the decision makers at WSOC? It may not be as simple as the "WSOC is betraying the Panthers" narrative some of you guys are sticking with.

Again...Augusta doesn't have a team so it's not a fair comparison. What exactly does "grow up" mean? I would argue that until its fans start giving a poo about BS like this then it will continue to happen. I, for one, do give a poo about it. So I'll exercise my choice to not support WSOC's programming ever. Just like I do for any and all business which choose not to support this community. So yes...it's great that I am able to make that choice.

You're right, until people like me watch cars go in circles for several hundreds of miles instead of watch football this will be our fate. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the droves of Redskins fans in the area....

Also grow up would mean be in the league longer than 20 years. That's a fraction of the time established franchises like Washington, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Dallas etc have been in the league. We're still one of the babies of the NFL in terms of team history. It will take my generations children growing up with their Panthers fan parents raising them as Panthers fans to get the Washington/Dallas stink out of Charlotte and the rest of NC/SC.

Great use of sarcasm but you completely missed the point.

See edited post, I got somewhat serious 30 seconds later.

There will always be fans of other teams in every market. We will never get rid of that - which is fine. It's when local businesses, especially news outlets, embrace the other teams just to make money. The Skins are direct competitors of the Panthers in all facets. For a news channel whose call sign is "We Serve Our Community", it's pretty jacked up to bring in a business that competes with our local team.

I'm sure I'm one of the extreme because I take that poo personally. I'm sure it's because I'm from here, I'm big into supporting my community, and I'm a fan of the team. I'll continue to let WSOC know I don't support their decision. I'm sure it won't do anything, but if we want future generations of Panthers fans to not deal with this BS then it's better to say something than to rollover and play dead about it.

I would argue that the opposing fan problem somewhere like Charlotte where a team is trying to establish itself in a city that is already a melting pot of sorts, is much more significant than almost every other NFL city. With that said I respect your opinion, and respect how passionate you are about it. Overly sensitive was the wrong term to use, though I do think some people (not saying you) are just joining the masses in crying foul, but will probably be tuning in Saturday night.

I agree with your first sentence. That's all the more reason to not want to have a "rival" team's game in this market. The Panthers compete with the Skins for fans.

Like I said...I'm sure I'm one of the extremists. I've stopped going to bars/restaurants because they didn't have the Bobcats' games on the past two years. I've stopped going to bars/restaurant because they are a host bar for another team. But that's just me....

And it's me as well. I support local places that support the local franchises. It's a choice I make.
