People still think that the combine accurately quantifies athleticism? o.O

It absolutely is a good way to measure and compare athleticism.

Whether or not is is useful in terms of real world football skills is debatable.

to me it seemed like Norman's biggest problem his rookie year was consistently giving a 10 yard cushion, particularly in late game situations in which WR would run slants and move the chains.

that was certainly on coaching

Meh.  He just sounds like an angry young rebel.

The difficulty with true rebels is they don't like being in controlled environments like the NFL.  True rebels can't be coerced with money, women, an easy retirement or by reason and logic from a man who has "submitted" to said environment.

I don't think the issue was with the trash talk in the first place.  I think it was because his facemask touched Bowe's, and we all remember that load of BS from the Niners game.

If the play backed up the mouth, I might see your point.  It doesn't, and the point of the article is that Norman is rebelling against the matter that lies between his ears.  There is no reason to taunt the other team, especially if you are in the third quarter of the second exhibition game.  You say rebel, I say idiot.

Norman being this supreme physical talent is one of the biggest Panthers myths there is. Just about every single workout of his at the Combine was below average for an NFL CB. He was the top CB performer in broad jump for his class, but that was because the entire class was weak in that drill compared to the norm. He would've been tied for 9th in broad jump in this past CB class.

The numbers don't lie. Josh Norman is a below average athlete for an NFL CB.

I cant stand when people refer to combine numbers to show what kind of "athlete" someone can be. None of those numbers matter when your on a football field. Your mindset and will to win means much more, look at KB for example, his combine numbers were below average yet he looks to be much more solid than sammy watkins so far and watkins looked like a mad man at the combine... Its all just evaluation, and the main part of the evaluation is what the poo you do with the pads on and your helmet strapped, it ain't no track meet.

I just dont see what Norman did wrong in the Chiefs game. Smitty does that all the time and worse. Sherman does it all the time and is waaaay more obnoxious. I guess my question is whats the message? I keep hearing people bash Norman for what he did but why? Grant it hes no HOFer like a Smitty or a Sherman but still, what gives?

What he did was almost cost the defence a penalty. Sherman and Smith no when to stop and Norman does not.

As far as football opinions in the traditional media goes, Joe Person is usually dead on even though you all give him plenty of grief.

David does do a good interview.

While his opinions tend to go along with the norm. He tends to create a story by making up drama that isn't really there. He hasn't done it this year yet to my knowledge, but he has done it in the past with Rivera, Thomas Davis and Gettleman.

You would know better than I would have course but isn't that why the players tend to prefer interviews with Newton or Johnathan Jones?

I've only ever seen players and personel be friendly and accommodating with Joe.

Yea, but you can't begin to compare that defensive line to this one

Norman has enough physical ability to play with most WRs. His real weakness is the burners

people give Person poo because he always seems late to the party.  I haven't seen too many people trash him due to his football knowledge...

David Newton has had his success largely because his competition is weak, but it's becoming obvious that his material is growing more stale by the day.
