I agree and would add that the panthers have done a better job finding talent  that is undrafted or budget free agents. Gettlemen said he was building from the bottom up.  No GM in football knows the bottom of other teams' rosters better than DG.

The way he played hardball and signed Dwan Edwards

The way he found Cole

Grabbing Blackburn on the cheap

Signing White, undrafted out of some small school

Grabbing Cason whose stock had plummeted in Arizona

DeCoud could prove to be a steal

Horton looks to be a talent-undrafted

Harper was a nice find and could be a solid veteran presence for a short while

Lester (undrafted) looks to find a place in the rotation

Gettlemen is like the guy on Pawn Stars who brings in stuff that he found in the trash and sells for big bucks.  Hurney sucked at this stuff, never doing much better than random chance would allow.

I didn't mean that they would get paid less, just count less against the cap.

They could potentially make more from a rule like that.

I like it. Players could still take any offer they wish but it would make drafted players easier to retain. The difference that didnt count against the cap would be "loyalty tax"

Ohhhh well in that case, the owners would NEVER agree to that. It would virtually eliminate free agency and mean you're one poor gm making some poor drafting decisions away from being crippled for years.

Not necessarily. If you could only designate a few players, like 3-5, it would just put more emphasis on drafting well.

First thought is ravens, 1996-1999

Johnathan Ogden

Ray Lewis

Peter Boulware

Duane Starks

Chris McAllister

Ogden was a walter jones/muroz type, just a large man that could move very well. I saw where he opened a pot shop recently, for what its worth. Ray just speaking on field was special like no question top 5 as a MLB all timer. I don't remember pete dominting, but being very good for about 6 yrs and lasted a few more(also a fsu). Starks, i dont remember much about him. I believe he had a long career tho. Same for chris, I remember one of them playing for the titans for some reason.... don't know if its right or wrong. Ozzie is great, may the best in the last ten years when it comes to drafting. He not scared for question marks and he knows the makeup of a success drafted player.
