Chances Bersin could be our number 2 at WR

Seriously guy? I did not love LaFell as our #2 receiver, but LaFell runs way better routes than Bersin. As for drops, we have no idea whether Bersin won't drop the ball. LaFell did not drop the ball a lot in the offseason just as Bersin hasn't. For all we know he could get some time on the big stage and drop all his targets. Bersin's route running has looked good because he's going against 3rd stringers and it's considerably easier to get YAC against bad tacklers. LaFell went against 1st stringers and looked better both in routes and YAC. I'm not a LaFell advocate but he is considerably better than Bersin. Cotch and Avant are both better than LaFell in my opinion too, so there's not a chance in hell Bersin passes them on the depth chart if they are healthy.

I'm not guy, you know my name. Bersin is unproven. So was everyone else at some point in their career. From what I've seen in camp, all I am saying is I've seen nothing that tells me he Can't be a #2 every opportunity he's had he's made the most of it. I'd like to see what the man can do with an opportunity on the field. I have no concrete evidence that Bersin is better than Lafell because we simply have not seen him on the field, but by looking at how consistent he is with his route running, hands, I could see how he would be a better #2 in our offense, an offense which values possession, route technition receivers to move the chain. I'm sure people said the same thing about victor Cruz..

If it's 4th down of the first game against Tampa with 3 seconds left in the game, we need 13 yards to score a touchdown and win......I would hope Cam would look to Olsen, Benjamin, Avant, or Cotchery before going to Bersin. Don't get me wrong, I really like Bersin but I'm just not sure I trust him as much as the others guys yet.

David Newton on Bersin:

At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, he's a big target for Newton. Having come from the run-oriented triple-option offense at Wofford, he's also one of the team's better blockers at wide receiver. That's key for a team that wants to base its offense around a power running game. That's why the Panthers are giving him a look with the first team with Benjamin out.

...

Ron Rivera said: "He's one of those guys we're interested to see how he plays when he plays against the other team's No. 1...He's going to get opportunities. He's earning these opportunities with the things he's done. We'll see how he progresses. The preseason games will be really big for his opportunity."

also, Panthers beat reporter for the AP, Steve Reed said:

"Big question for Brenton Bersin will be if he can get open against top CBs in the league. Preseason will tell the tale."

Bersin has been developing rapidly and seems receptive to Proehl's wisdom.  He has shown good route running, excellent hands, and impressive body control.  Maybe not right away--maybe not this year, but expect him to continue to impress.

For those who want a definitive, concrete answer in a fluid conversation, Bersin is the #4 WR right now--if you do not think so, you have not been watching.  How hard would it be to leapfrog Avant?  Cooper did it in Philly.  Cotchery?  A bit tougher, but he is made to be a #3 WR.

Bersin is tall and sure-handed--what Cam Newton needs.  To think he is not capable of playing #2 here is biased--not because he is white, but because he is an undrafted practice squad player from a small school.

Not so fast my friend.

KB, Avant, Cotchery, and King are the locks.

Bersin is fighting with Philly as the #5 WR. Given Philly's ability to return punts. I think he had the edge.

Bersin likely only makes the team if we keep 6WR's.... Which is not a lock that we do.

Bersin definitely makes it over King. King isn't consistent. He can either be a playmaker like against the Bills, or can make some bad plays like against the Chiefs.

The only people who know if he has a shot at 2 or 3 or whatever are the players and the coaches out there with him every day in practice.

The average Huddler, like me, that only see him in a few preseason contests cannot with any certainty say he could or could not. As others have suggested, too many are being influenced by the name recognition factor of guys like J Cotchery and J Avant.

We all know it's not likely he plays a big role this year, but he'll get his chances to move up the depth chart if his play warrants it.
