Who's the 'Prototype' for the New Age QB? Newton or Luck?

Both these guys have ways to and I doubt this debate can be settled before any of them have been at least 10yrs in the league. That said, I would say considering that Luck has been playing pro-style for longer and does not appear to be superior to Cam, Cam may end up being better, ie, higher ceiling.

I think in Romo's case it's deserved.

(and I'm really not being a Panther homer or a Cowboy hater when I say that)

I can see your point, but having watched every Cowboys game for the past 19 years gives me a different perspective.

Tony is a great QB. He is a great fourth quarter QB. What hurts him is his horrible defense that can't close games. It's similar to year one and two Cam, yet Tony has been Jerry'd his whole career. No one wants to see the amazing plays he makes throughout the game, instead they tend to focus on the game losing interception at the end of the game. When you have to chuck 20 extra passes in a row trying to stage a comeback, it's likely one will be interceptions. The main reason people look down on Tony is the bobbled ball on the kick hold on the playoffs. If not for that, most people would probably look at Tony as clutch instead of a game thrower.

Romo can be good, but in big games he chokes.

Another case of people just listening to what the media says. Romo is a darn good QB. I watch Cowboy games too. He is the only thing they have going in Texas, him and Dez Bryant. They need some defense.

Good morning Panthers fans! Our FBGP Analyst Gene Clemons took a look at both Andrew Luck & Cam Newton and analyzing why Newton is being critically undervalued for what he brings to the table.

Enjoy

I think there's some truth to the article BUT I just have to say that Luck is definitely a prototype of a HoF QB just as much as Cam. People seem to discount his athleticism too much and the stats don't show that at all. Luck is a huge man and can run if needed. He's not going to be a playmaker with his legs, but he's not a statue and there are easier QBs to sack than him.

Luck is going to be around a long time and Panther's fans need to stop trying to tear him down just because they see his attention as a threat to Newton getting more accolades. His career has been just as impressive as Newton's at this point.

I really think this is a huge factor, especially since Cam still plays in the NFC South.  Winning the National Championship and his history at Florida created a lot of "ill will" in this corner of the country from SEC fans of teams other than Auburn.  Each and every one of them are more than eager to jump on every perceived or actual failure by Cam.

as a proud South Carolina Gamecock fan, i hold no ill will against Cam Newton for creaming my team in the SEC Championship the year he won the Heisman and the Nat'l Champ. The man is a stud, and he is my QB. hopefully he will be for years and years to come

The prototype QB is trending towards a dual threat QB. It isnt to say Cam has started something that has never existed. Its just that he is 6'5" 240 pounds, can throw, and can run. You wont see that much. You cant teach 6'5".

I honestly think that Luck is the prototype because i believe Cam is very rare. I dont see "prototype" as something that rare. I just dont believe there is anyone else quite like him. At least right now.

Funny

I see you can't get away from it, can you (people repeatedly telling you how "the Panther D blew numerous games for Cam that he should have won/got 4th quarter come back credits for, while the media, and some Huddler's "ahem" labelled him a choker)?

You can't make this up. :startle:

this is why i love football. when the West Coast offense came on it was out of the box and revolutionary. No team prior to San Fran had it's first 15 plays scripted NO matter what the defensive look was.

So to adjust for the quick slants which offset the rush, team D's had to adjust. In comes the 46 defense.

Then offenses adjust and in comes smash mouth, ball control, dinks and dunks and keep the ball away from the other team and when the battle of field position and turnovers.

then the league makes it an even crazier pass happy league with protecting the qb and not letting db's hit guys like they use to. then Oregon breaks out the spread which is a variation of older offenses not used anymore.

this is where the NFL is now.

once defenses stop the spread consistently and bottles up qb's then the it will be the offenses turn to adapt to something else.

it seems the trend now is to have a solid offense, but on D have guys who can not get into a full formation up to the last possible second of the snap to avoid audibles.

this is the beauty of the NFL.

Thanks for the comments.

However, don't believe his official stats.

Cam is almost 6'6", and weighs about 260lbs (bare minimum, 255 in tip top shape).
