Who's the 'Prototype' for the New Age QB? Newton or Luck?

Luck puts a nice touch on the ball, and can lob it nicely with precision right over a defender. Cam hasn't really developed that side of his passing game. He most throws rockets, and it's not unusual for him to throw a pass so far off the mark that fans will do a double take. Cam will also go long stretches (more than 1 quarter) where he doesn't throw a good pass. Luck imo is more consistent. I would give the edge to Luck in passing, and Cam in running. Let me be clear, drafting Cam is the best thing that ever happened to the Panthers. His ability to scramble, run the read option, avoid sacks, and make all the pro throws makes him the best QB we've ever had, and one of the best QBs in the NFL. I'm thrilled he's our QB, but he does have some serious flaws.

Have you watched Luck Play, Pass?? :startle:

He throws as many bad balls, if not worse than Newton. Serious; no joke.

And I don't see any exceptional touch from him either (though he doesn't have a "rocket" like Cam).

Luck's a good passer. But he's no better than Newton. You can even argue he makes worse decisions. See them all the time from Luck. He can look bad many times, like Cam. However, his are not overtly scrutinized and picked apart like Cam's. Did you see some of Luck's awful play in the playoff's last year, as one of many examples??

Of course, mistakes can be expected from both, as neither has a great OL, WR and Running game to lean on as a RGIII, Wilson or Kaep, thus more is required from them on their respective teams. So it makes sense.

And I don't see the Serious flaws you do in Cam. Where? Sure he can use improvement in certain areas. No doubt. However, that's a gross exaggeration in my opinion (and part in parcel of the unfair media perception he has with some).

Do Panther fans/Huddler's watch Panther games in a vacuum??

A serious flaw is trying to throw a ball to a certain location, and having the ball go nowhere near that location. That's a serious flaw because it can lead to INTS unless it sails out of bounds. We've been fortunate in the past as these have (by pure luck) sailed out of bounds, or to an area where there was no defender.

Luck can put a really nice touch on the ball and drop it into a nice spot softly. Cam needs to work on that.

Luck throws some weird balls at times too. Every QB does.

What you're explaining, EVERY NFL QB Does (throw the ball off). This is especially true with young, big armed, and QB's who don't have running games and great OL's to rely on. Do you actually watch NFL games if I can ask?

For the record:  We saw Newton throw pinpoint, lofty fades to SS in the endzone against the skins as a rookie, along with numerous other passes in tight windows.

Bottom line is, Panthers just didn't have NFL level receivers the past two years to make those catches (due to Smith's decline, and the utter suckage of LaFail, etc.).

Cam's not perfect. However, neither is Luck.

I've watched a few Colts games with Luck, and I've seen every pass Cam has ever made with the Panthers. That means I'm lacking in evaluating Luck's passing. If you guys are saying that Luck makes as many wild throws as Cam, then I'll take your word for it. That would certainly even things out between the two of them.

Yes I watch Sunday and Monday night football.

Cam seems to throw the off ball more than other QBs I've seen.

That's bc he is "our" QB and the serious fans are always watching his play with a magnifying glass. But in reality he is pretty much in line with top tier QBs especially considering how young he still is.

Luck and Cam have much more responsibility, decision making, and leeway on their teams, thus will make some wild throws. They also go through their progressions, which will can cause all type of mistakes with young QB's (badly run routes, pressure, miscommunication, sailed throws, pressures, etc.)

RG3, Kaep, and even Wilson, are much more tightly controlled (plus have great RB's to rely on), thus don't have too take as many chances to move the ball downfield. Those guys, are told to try to get rid of the ball as quickly as possible to an already given receiver/area on the field (RG3 and Kaep, and even Wilson), so their decision making is limited.

That could certainly be the case. Unless we have someone counting the wild throws of Cam and all the other top QBs we can't really make an exact comparison. It could be that as a fan I "feel" like Cam is making more wild throws, but he's really isn't.

Then Lord Help you?

Did you watch the PLAYOFF'S LAST YEAR, when Dalton, Brees, Luck, Wilson, and so many other QB's were throwing wild overthrows on the regular?

That was pointed out here (with acknowledgement from the guilty parties) for fans just like you. Did you watch any playoff games last year?

I watch a lot of NFL games every weekend (Rezone, Sunday ticket), and what I see from Cam is no different than what I see from all NFL QB's every weekend. They all make bad throws, mistakes, etc. It happens.

Panther fans/Huddler's just appear to over over reactionary idiots!

Easy you're getting really worked up over a trivial conversation.

Playoff defense is a different animal, with only the best teams participating. Of course there would be more errant throws, especially with Seattle. That doesn't prove anything.
