Who's the 'Prototype' for the New Age QB? Newton or Luck?

Thanks. I said it yesterday and often that he is (will be) the GOAT. I'm country music and scruffy as well by the way, but I have a set of eyeballs and can look objectively at numbers. I also just got a black Newton jersey for my birthday nearly a decade after thinking I would never wear a jersey again.

Good morning Panthers fans! Our FBGP Analyst Gene Clemons took a look at both Andrew Luck & Cam Newton and analyzing why Newton is being critically undervalued for what he brings to the table.

Enjoy

Enjoyed the write up but you did get wrong one thing which Newton has always dressed better than Luck or any of the young QBs. He always is wearing suits or sweater vests. He is clean cut and is very articulate even when saying the wrong words or phrases. Ive never seen him with a backward hat on.

I hope it gets attention, FC. I do think a lot of people dont like Cam because he is prideful. I hear it mentioned often specifically from fair weather football fans, the same ones who never liked Steve Smith.

Remember the Deion Sanders interview?

Deion, "Do you smell the cologne I'm wearing?"

Cam, "No."

Deion, "It's called confidence. I wear it every day. You got that same scent."

Cam, "It smell good don't it?"

We are so lucky to not only have the GOAT, but a fun personality as well. Embrace the jealousy/hate.

Thanks Gang! Gene has done a great job with his 1st & Forever columns. We've been getting good feedback from you guys wanting written content on our site in addition to what we do with the videos.

I have a video coming out about players that were were ahead of their time that were considered 'busts'

I don't see how anyone can watch Newton play (of course that's part of the big problem, most don't watch him play, but are quick to talk) and say he doesn't have the impact, or even more than Luck.

Cam's Rookie season, and even the past two years, he's had to be most of, or the whole show.

Cam doesn't have the luxury of a great running game, WR's or O-Line to fall back on (which makes other young QB's jobs and stats much easier). Of course Cam and Luck are in similar scenarios (compared to Kaepernick, RG3 and Wilson). However, Lucks defense was good enough the past two years to hold onto his 4th quarter comebacks, while Cam's defense (regardless of their ratings), blew their 4th quarter leads, while Cam got the blame--though he put the team in position to win. Luck also plays in a soft division.

I agree but I personally wouldn't take anything away from Luck. He's led some breathtaking comeback drives. They are both stars.

    • Thats how GMs get fired.  Sure Bowers is the anomaly but the history of first round TE's is fuging brutal at best.  Now you want to pick one in the top 10?  Oof.  You want to play with fire, go ahead and be my guest but dont go crying when your ass is fired morgan.   But all you guys pining for Warren need to realize its not going to happen, even morgan isnt that stupid and it shows by the lack of top 30 visit.   https://www.profootballnetwork.com/tight-ends-first-round/
    • Chicago will not trade up for a Jeanty.  Thinking a team will trade up to the top 5 for a RB with the idea of finding trading partner for your current RB1 is a LONG shot proposition for the Jags (I have heard the same rumblings about this scenario).  I honestly think they are putting out smoke just hoping to move back.  At #5 there should be more value and this draft is very thin with elite talent at the top.  Again, they are simply trying to fabricate a scenario to move back and get more value.
    • UPDATE:  CHARLIE CAMPBELL HAS CHANGED THE PROJECTION OF THE PANTHERS SELECTION. HE NOW PROJECTS JALON WALKER TO GO TO THE RAIDERS AT 6.  HE PROJECTS MYCHEL WILLIAMS TO GO TO THE PANTHERS AT 8.  6. Las Vegas Raiders: Jalon Walker, OLB, Georgia Pete Carroll has always placed an emphasis on drafting pass rushers and addressing the defensive front seven. Las Vegas could use linebacker help as well. Having Walker at Sam linebacker could be similar to Carroll using Bruce Irvin as a Sam in Seattle, and give the Raiders a pass rushing trio with Maxx Crosby and Tyree Wilson. Walker is also a high-character leader who will help the culture reset under another new regime in Las Vegas. Walker is a dangerous edge rusher for the Bulldogs, showing speed and athleticism off the edge. In 2024, he had 61 tackles with 6.5 sacks and two passes broken up. Walker had five sacks as a rotational player in 2023. The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder is too undersized to be a base edge rusher in the NFL, so he will have to be a linebacker who rotates to rush off the edge in the subpackage.   8. Carolina Panthers: Mykel Williams, DE, Georgia The Panthers need a true replacement for Brian Burns. Williams gives them a talented edge rusher that also has size to defend the run. In 2024, Williams had 21 tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles thus far. He missed the month of September with an injury. Williams totaled 16 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two passes batted in 2023. As a freshman backup in 2022, he recorded 4.5 sacks and 28 tackles. The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder has a lot of upside and an excellent skill set.
