Pilares and underwood seem to be the odd men out on the WR front. I don't know how much play Bersin/King will get during the season, barring injury, but Philly should make the team by default as the best returner on the team.

I understand t optimism for Brown, but does anyone think he needs more experience? Pilares has always been sure handed as far as I remember. In punt returns, the biggest thing is not turning the ball over. Pilares has very few drops over his entire career college and pro on returns.

Pilares doesn't do punt returns. Just kickoffs.

To my previous post: Ironically, instead of the national media presenting it as, "The Panthers turn the team over to Cam Newton, didn't feel last years receivers were so great". No No. Instead, they make it sound as if they're flummoxed why the Panthers would jettison their entire receiver core, while failing l to mention their leading receiver's still on the team. SMH

 

it plays into the media's agenda. thats why they do it. there has to be some sort of spin. it has become insulting the past two months the way they diss this team over and over. and meanwhile, our players are showing out. this team is extremely talented. the media knows it and just wants to keep people from knowing it.

Pilares does have sure hands. but thats all he has. he gets stuffed behind the 20 yd line every time he catches a return.

The Pilares hate is way over blown. He is a reliable returner. No he isn't great, but he doesn't make bone headed mistakes. And when he does get in at WR, samething. I think people just hate that he isn't as fast as they want him to be.

I'd question whether special teams alone is enough to make this year's roster.

 

Could be that whomever shows they actually have potential as a receiver might be the guy that sticks.

I think Brown would be best kick returner for us. Have a hunch Fozzy Whittaker should be given a chance at punt return. If he pans out why not carry both Foz and Reaves

What I liked about Brown was he addressed the drop.  Identified what he did wrong and learned from it.

 

The guy is a rookie.  No one, from Brown all the way to JR took it lightly.  It happened.  Learn from it and try not to do it again.

 

Catching punts is definitely an art.  Ever tried to catch a beautiful punt.  The damn thing nearly turns over coming back away from the punt returner.

 

What I like about Brown (saw during the KO return) not a whole lot of dancing.  Quickly moving forward gaining every possible yard.  Looking for that spot of daylight to shoot through.  

 

I am going to say this now.  He'll return at least one to the house if he wins the PR job.

Don't think I glossed over it. I at least asked him about it.

It sounds like it was a learning experience for him... Kind of what preseason is all about.

Brown strikes me as a bright player that is self motivated. I am pulling for him.

 

I am not saying you glossed over it in the sense that you barely mentioned it. I just feel that you and others in this thread are inexplicably making light of Brown's pattern of drops.  Sure it's good that he realized his error, but I would have thought that he'd be past that sort of mental lapse considering he put the ball on the ground in camp multiple times.

 

For what it's worth, I absolutely appreciate that you took the time to get thoughts from a player like Brown who is on the bubble.  We need more of that.  I believe that your impressions are probably spot-on about his motivation.  That being said, I don't want to go back to the pre-Ginn time of holding my breath, hoping that a kick isn't muffed every other possession.
