What do you guys make of the Cam haters still out there today?

People that didn't think he would be any good felt stupid after his first two NFL games. The way his numbers sort of fell after that made them regain focus on "See he's not that good” instead of "This is the greatest rookie quarterback performance of all-time." He wins ROY & this makes them dislike him. He's gotten better every season while smiling with every step. This makes them hate him. Let's be honest, the same ones here that didn't want us to draft him would hate him too if we didn't & he was on some other team shining. He has a ways to go to reach his ceiling (which he will), but we grasp on to how far he is towards that ceiling while the "haters" hold on to how far he is from that ceiling. I personally love it. Haters are entertaining.

The haters have taken over where the media has left off.

Remember Cam resides where there is still a ton of animosity towards him because he helped one of the biggest rival teams in the South win a Championship. To see even Panther fans hating on Cam or quick to dismiss his accomplishments but is always ready with a criticism, says to me, some folks will only pretend to like him when he helps the team win. Some will go as far as dismiss whatever he's done and give credit to every player but him.

IMO, the Panthers has some serious fair weathered fans.

I hate to bring up racism but I feel like a lot of people around here don't give him the credit he deserves simply because of his skin color.

You could be right, but on the other hand, there are people that call in and say guys like Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, or other qb's who have been doing it longer than Cam shouldn't start.  The problem is that if there are 50 people that don't think Cam should start, they will be the loudest, and the ones who will dial in to these shows.

Personally I thought Cam looked rusty at the start, but really picked it up once Stewart had that big run.

Dude, I am a Giants fan and LOVE me some ELI, believe u me, rusty Cam is 5 times better than Eli. I honestly don't think Eli or to many QBs would hold up behind the Panthers O-line.

And what is so funny is how quickly Cam knocked that rust off considering and started to connect with the receivers. Which tells me some Panthers' fans simply watch the game and root for every good move and ready to fire for every bad one.

Picture this, Colin went 5 of 9 and was useless last night in the 49er/Bronco's game. Cam went 4-9, knock some rust off and got two tds on the way to his team winning. Cam is very determined. he will find a way to help his team win. That is something many of the Panthers fans seem to easily overlook.

it's usually just agenda driven at this point i think.  most of the people who were vehemently opposed to him on this site have come around or are afraid to show their faces unless they're just obviously trying to troll.

like that butthurt florida fan on bleacher report who wrote that infamously stupid shitty article about how cam was the worst first overall in draft history probably still thinks he sucks.  he'll be sitting in his "man cave" in a few weeks in a faded tеbow jersey surrounded by his urban meyer commemorative dinner plate collection going "i knew he couldn't handle the pro game N6XQZbg.gif" the minute he throws an incomplete pass against the bucs.

Speaking of that guy, didn't he make some kind of guarantee that Cam wouldn't be in the league 3 years from then meanwhile The Golden Calf of Bristol would be on his way to multiple Super Bowls?  Said if it didn't happen then he would show up to the Bucs home game in his underwear with a Cam Newton jersey and a sign that says 'Carolina rules, Tampa Bay sucks' or something like that.

Well... it's been 3 years.

Pretty much the Huddle thought process.

Oy

Yes, there are racists out there, but I think it's pretty lazy to assume everybody who doesn't like Cam is a racist or a closet racist.  That's just silly.

For one, a pretty good contingent out of the "hater" parade are Alabama fans, Saint/Buc/Falcon fans, other NFL team fans, etc.  To be honest, I don't really give a rat's ass about their opinions because they're always going to be slanted.  Ask a Panther fan for a fair assessment of Matt Ryan and you'll get the same.  Big deal.

Panther fans though?  Based on what I hear from them, I'd say some are probably just pricks, but the majority of what I hear screams one primary thing:

Lack...of football knowledge.

First off, you've got a guy playing in his first preseason game after ankle surgery (a big deal for a QB, even one that doesn't run like Cam does) alongside teammates with whom he's only minimally practiced.  You seriously expected him to look good under those conditions?  What the hell were you thinking?

Beyond that though, and arguably more important, his performance last night was a sign of progress.

You heard me...Progress!

Why?  Because the Cam Newton of his first two years (you know, the one with crazy stats but a lousy win-loss record) was a guy who'd start games like a house on fire but then fade the longer the game went on.  He wasn't a finisher, and his record showed it.

The Cam Newton of last year?  Whole other story.

That Cam Newton might have started his fair share of games cold (most gunslingers do) but the longer the game went on, the better he got.  Hence, way more game winning drives than you'd seen at any time in his prior years.  And yeah, lesser stats, but a significantly improved win-loss record.  And that, ladies and gentlemen, is progress!

Heck, given the conditions, I wouldn't have been surprised if Newton had played his entire game like he did the first quarter.  But he didn't, and I'd argue that anybody who doesn't see that as a positive probably has a lot to learn about real world football.
