I guess Fozzy can't be neglected. Sorenson portrays Whitaker's character via the Observer.

His locker is not with the lockers of DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Tolbert and the other running backs. His locker is not tucked way in a corner with the offensive linemen, linebackers or kickers.

He’s been with the Panthers less than a month. So what do they make him do – dress in his car?

Ah, there he is. Crammed into what will become the player’s lounge during the season are 20 lockers, and one belongs to Whittaker.

If the locker room is first class, the lounge is coach. When I enter the abyss and ask for Whittaker, the other residents begin to call his name. They act excited. If one of them is recognized for his work, perhaps they all will be.

Sure Tom Soenson's article contains its elements of fluff, but for my money Soerenson did a fine job reflecting Fozzy Whitaker's workmanlike approach to the game, and the opportunity that he has, regardless if he makes the final cut.  And people have taken notice.

Whittaker, 25, grew up in Pearland, Tex., and played at Texas. He talks the way he runs, with little flash and little fanfare. He finds a hole and he slips through it before anybody knows.

“I just want to bring intensity no matter what it is, whether it’s running the ball, catching the ball, playing special teams, making tackles, returning kicks – it doesn’t matter,” Whittaker says in a rush. “What it is, I just want everybody to know that I’m playing 100 percent and it’s to help the team get a win.”

Says Newton: “To see him go out there and compete and running as hard as he did, man, it’s just a person showing resilience and being very optimistic about his opportunity. We had a great talk as an offense (Sunday) morning about what to expect from each other.

Yes, none other than Cam Newton took notice, and Fozzy apparently not only met expectations, but busted them wide open.
Sure he was running mainly against the third string, but he did exactly what he was supposed to do, and more.  I don't necessarily see him getting into the game on Sundays. I mean something would have to be going wrong, but it would be nice to know that we had a role player that will play as hard as Fozzy when his number is called.

From chargers.com-

"I get asked all the time about my name so I thought I’d talk about it. My real name is Foswhitt. My dad’s name is Foster, and he wanted a junior. My mother didn’t so they compromised and took the Fos from Foster and fused it with my last name, the Whitt from Whittaker. So they fused it and made it Foswhitt. So that’s how you pronounce my name and where it came from. Now, everybody calls me Fozzy, short for Foswhitt. I see all the pictures of me and Fozzy bear and it makes me laugh, but I don’t mind it at all. People always have a sense of humor, so you’ve always got to have fun no matter what it is. I don’t feel like anybody is being disrespectful in that kind of instance. They’re just having fun. So whenever I see stuff like that I enjoy it because it’s catered to me. I appreciate that people take time to even post it!"

I don't see any way Barner beats out Fozzy.

Your last sentence, " i dont neccessairly see him gettng into the game on Sundays." This just irks me, I hate seeing these potential great players play so good during pre season and training camp and yet never see the field come regular season? Why is this? Infact im speaking as NFL as a whole, wouldnt it be nice that if every year, nearly every position was a wide open race and anyone's job to claim?

For instance, why cant Bersin be the no 2 WR? He has looked amazing in training camp as well as pre season, he has shown a hell of a lot more than the other WRs not named Kelvin, thats certain.

Why cant Fozzy get a chance with the 1s and have a shot taking D Will's spot as a no 2 and move Stewart to no 1? Both Fozzy and Stewie has shown way more than D Will this pre season?

I guess my point is this, where in the rule book does it say you have to have sacred cows and no matter what, they cannot be replaced? Aside from QB, MLB and DT, all our positions should be a wide open race and starters not determined until the season starts

If you look at this from a completely objective lens, infact lets pretend for one minute you had no idea what players wore what jersey numbers, you watched the pre season games and made the call on who you think should be our no 1 and no 2 WRs strickly by their play on the field, no doubt it would be Kelvin and Bersin

I get what you're saying.  But you do have to take into account that neither Fozzy or Bersin has been in against first string.  Now, could they be ready to compete with the "big boys"?  It's possible. And I would hope that if circumstances warrant their getting a chance, then that would happen.  But at this point I am not ready to say that Fozzy should get the call over the other backs that we have (except possibly Barner), and Bersin will have to play his way into the starting line-up because Cotchery and Avant are seasoned pros who have proven that they can consistently compete at this level, as well as know the intricacies of being a receiver (i.e., they are wily veterans).  Kelvin Benjamin is getting the nod in large part because we can't afford to sit someone with his beastly potential, and he was a standout and national champion against top level competition in college, but Bersin hasn't really proven he's up to that caliber.

What the hell are you talking about? Because Fozzy has a few decent runs playing against 3rd stringers he's all of the sudden as good or better than Williams? There's a reason the dude wasn't on a team until we picked him up. For the Browns he averaged 2.8 yards per carry in the regular season before being cut. If he were playing against the 1st stringers he'd probably look just as bad as Barner does against the 2s.

As for Bersin... Really? He's been playing decently against the 2s and 3s so I agree he deserves some playing time with the 1s, but to say that "he has shown a hell of a lot more than the other WRs not named Kelvin, that's certain" is absolutely fuging absurd. Cotch and Avant have shown wayyy more playing against the 1s than he has shown playing against the 2s and 3s. Bersin looks good and deserves some playing time with the 1s but he is absolutely not worthy of being ahead of Avant and Cotch. Could that change? Sure. We know exactly what we'll get from Avant and Cotch since they've been in the league so long, but Bersin still hasn't hit his ceiling. He's just not at the point where he's better than or even close to either of those 2.

You should just shut up and trust the coaches and their evaluations. They're not going to sit a less talented player because of some "sacred cows" or whatever the fug you're talking about. The best players will play, and there are reasons that your examples aren't higher on the depth chart that you can't see because you are either retarded or blind.

And that's the triple truth Ruth!  It has been way to many posts overreacting to a couple of decent preseason performances.  D-lo, Cotch, and Avant must have done something to these dudes at training camp cause they are going hard on them.
