Well, the past is the past (as well all know), but I am in good company regarding that mentality in the present. Even Rivera is excited about the possibilities when it comes to having Stewart on the field.

Ryan Kalil's mentality regarding Stewart mirrors mine as well.

Stewart, IF he can stay healthy, is a beast. Minimize his potential contribution to the success of the team all you like if it makes you feel better.

You're really going to post a fluff article from yahoo sports to prove a point? And you're going to quote a guy who guaranteed a Super Bowl win for us? Words like "dynamic" and phrases like "he is a huge part of our running game" is just football jargon said to keep the camaraderie and morale up. I'm pretty sure we heard the same jargon used to talk up everybody from Armanti Edwards to Jon Beason (post-achilles) in years past.

I'm not saying we should minimize his carries if he's healthy and can take the workload. I'm saying, as evidenced by history, that Stewart wasn't essential to our success. Denver is putting their eggs in the montee ball basket. I mean yeah, it's a good bonus if he stays healthy, but if he goes on IR tomorrow, they're not going to miss the playoffs. Same case with Stewart. He's never been a cornerstone, but people like to act that way, while downplaying the contributions we've gotten from other players for some reason.

Well, everyone has an opinion.  The bottom line for me is that if we don't find a running game that was more proficient than last year's effort then we may get to the playoffs, but we'll likely be basically stuffed out like we were last season by a team with a flat out tougher running back. Moreover, it's no wonder why the Seahawks were able to get to the Super Bowl, being that they have arguably the toughest back in the league.

I get your overall point, but Denver comparison to us is really an apples and oranges comparison.  They are built a little differently, and are able to rely on Manning's precision-based air attack if all else fails.  Now, perhaps our air attack will move more towards that direction this year, but if last night's game is any indication we have a ways to go.  Cam's scrambling ability has masked our need for a more consistent and tougher running attack.  Hopefully Stewart can provide us the edge that we've missed for the last couple of seasons.

BTW, there was no fluff in Rivera's sentiment, just the cold, honest truth.

We need Stew to get the bulk of the carries. No splits. Let him get into a rhythm and just cruise. The offense is so much better with him on the field than DeAngelo or even Tolbert. I loved Double Trouble as we all did, but D-Will don't have it anymore. Let Stew be our feature back with Tolbert used situationally and D-Will be a change of pace or 3rd down back and backup.

Dwill is still explosive but he isn't that type if back, he's not a 20 carry back a speedster who can take a screen 80 yds for six. Him and stew spell each other we'll...this backfield can be the best in the league if used correctly and barring any injuries

When Stew is good, I like him. When he is hurt, I don't care for him very much. Time to hop on that Frozzy train today. Next week if Reaves does good, I'll like him too.

We have better run blocking guards this season, so Stew should have better rushing lanes. During the Otah days Stew looked like the best RB we've ever had and one of the best RBs in the NFL. That can happen again if the o-line can deliver. Mix in the read option with Cam and we could have huge rushing numbers.

Was no surprise for me.

Knew there would be a lot of the same posters who never miss a chance to bash him, would be singing his praises.

Regardless of contracts, injuries are a fact of life in the NFL. Teams can't just tear up big contracts cause of injuries. You also can't expect a player to redo a contract he hard earned

Stewart has been a great RB since before he was pro. He is a tough, hard nosed runner.

I'm grateful he's a panther, and will only pray that all our players stay healthy as long as possible.
