If you look back over the past few years, you'll find I've frequently referred to Godfrey as a 'highlight reel' guy.

Every once in a while he'll make a big hit, maybe even the occasional interception, and if that's all you see of him he looks pretty good.

Watch him for an entire game, though?  You get a more complete picture, and it's not a good one.

Who in the SS competition can even be considered a "'Highlight Reel"""guy??

It seem like you have a 2nd year undrafted players and 2 special teamers.

Saints D and our D are apples and oranges.

We have a front that can literally rush 4 and drop everyone all game.

More aggressive defenses leave your DBs in bad spots...

Roman has been bad for years and was PFF top 5 worst safeties last year on a good defense.

Please stop making excuses for his declining play over the last 4 years.

Our front 7 can't make him younger faster and make up for his completely non-exsitent  coverage skills.

this is what i'm referring to as his first couple of years,i've watched games through to the end,yes that was godfrey for you his first couple of years but snce then it's hard to find alot of plays where he gets beat like a drum like everyone is referring to, or is out of position, he's no world beater but the guy is solid and a good fit for this team IMO.........i think he gets a lot of blame for the pathetic play from guys like nakumura and martin

Godfrey has been one of the worst tacklers in the NFL. He also can't cover.

That was pre-injury.

Bash Harper. But Godfrey isn't a solution

I'd put Godfrey numbers tackling and coverage skills over Harper any day.

If Godfrey is bad t this stuff then Harper is worst then bad.

Look at the numbers??

yet another myth, in his last 3 years your saying godfrey has been one of the worst tacklers in the nfl.................

same guy screaming if Stewart is healthy he's the best rb on the team, can't see a healthy godfrey as one of the better safety's on the team if not best.............mind-blowing, the guy was doing pretty damn good before the injury and actually got hurt making a good break-up in the end-zone

Godfrey's numbers as a tackler have been horrific. I did tons of research on all that bc I have called out Godfrey for a half decade.

Use PFF and look at missed tackles since Godfrey arrived.

Then you do the same thing and look at Roman Harper rating.

Look at Godfrey's missed tackles....use PFF. Find someone worse since he arrived into the league. Anyone worse lost there job as a S and didn't keep there job like Godfrey did.

He isn't a S.

I said years ago he should be auditioned as a CB and if he couldn't do that be be gone. Which his where he is now.

You know what? I agree. There's no way anyone who didn't look like a king in another system is going to look any better just because he's playing behind our front seven.

Mike Mitchell is absolutely gonna suck for us. Heck, why did we sign some castoff from the Raiders anyway?

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
