2 police officers shot in North East Charlotte

Meh HVK. Who cares? Its not they just shot people for being in the neighborhood, unless they were rival gang members I suppose.

Even in the documentary they said the reason the HVK's were so successful was because no one knew how big of a deal they were.  They were smart about it.  It wasn't until that shootout on Sugar Creek till it got really exposed.  That neighborhood doesn't look like a bad neighborhood if you didn't know the history of it honestly.   It's kind of sad because it's a pretty cool place if it was cleaned up a bit and in a better part of town.

Difference is the guy who shot them was arrested and details were given out almost immediately.

I think the reason everything was available right away is because no one died.  If someone got killed, it's a different protocol they have to follow.

this man will likely recieve the dealth penalty or at worse life inprisonment. There is nothing to protest. He committed a crime, he was arrested, and he will be tried. Justice will be served.

North Carolina is not as harsh on death penalty as some other states.  I think he will get a life in prison.  You do not shoot at police officers.

The death penalty is only for first degree murder.

He is charged with 3 counts of attempted murder. This doesn't qualify for a life sentence as best I can tell. Depending on what the lawyers work out I would guess 30 years/out in 10-20. I think they could technically find him guilty on all three counts and make him serve them one at a time but I don't think they usually this.

Police get different treatment from regular citizens.  Attempted murder on police officer almost always gets you a life in prison.  He attempted to kill 2 police officers and 10 year old girl.

Here's an example.

You can google attempted murder of police officers and all suspects got life in prison.

Not sure if you meant the last sentence but I don't even think a majority do. 15-40 years is much more common. Also that is Deleware. Each state has it's own sentencing.

I can only find three in NC and they all got long sentences but not life

In NC the charge is a class is a B1 Felony and the sentencing guidelines do call for life in prison if the the crime has aggravating circumstances and the defendant has enough prior convictions. Our charlotte guy does have a priors but it looks like a class D&E felony. I'll stick with 30 years but the courts system is not an expertise of mine

I do sometimes wonder why the penalty for attempted murder is automatically less than that for actual murder.  Should the convicted get less of a sentence just because he or she can't shoot straight?

I think there are legal semantics. First degree murder is premeditated and you can easily get life/the chair. But second degree murder and voluntary manslaughter carry pretty similar sentences to non-premeditated attempted murder (2nd degree attempted murder in most states.)
