Anyone buy precious metals? I've done amazing with these and was thinking about buying another 1k oz. My last purchase was around $13 and $11 before that, but it seems to run up everytime it reaches just below $20

I invested in precious metals one time. I bought a set of irons at a yard sale and sold them for a tidy profit.JK.

I have some silver and gold coins in the safe and plan to keep buying once in a while. Forced savings and portfolio balancing.

I am dipping into Gazprom today at 7.12 (OGZPY.) It is a speculative move and risky for many reasons. Political obviously and it is an OTC stock. However the upside could be nice and I could use some OIL exposure in my portfolio. Also pays a dividend.

I doubt it is at the bottom and may not be for a while but I am prepared to buy on the way down unless WWIII happens.

Up 5.5% today.

I kinda lucked out that about a year after Katrina was when I started making good money and about a year to year and a half after that is when I had all my debts paid and had money available to invest. I decided to try precious metals based on a tip from one of my economics professors and I bought a ton of gold silver and platinum around 2008 where gold and platinum had been around $800. I cashed out a good amount in 2012, but still have some in bank deposit. I've been buying the Silver Eagles monster green box of 500 for past few years when I see a dip like we have now, so will probsbly buy again this week.

Where do you buy from? APMX markup is still like $3 per coin even for 500.

Lately I have been using Apmex, but I occasionally use my local dealer who I've done a ton of business with so he gives it to me like $100 over his cost,. Obviously they are more that spot, but they are also worth more and if you get a desirable year, you may even get a little extra premium, so it all works out.

Could be a buying opportunity. I will be watching.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2014/09/09/mcdonalds-fast-food-restaurants-chipotle-panera/15329043/

McDonald's CEO Don Thompson found himself under increasing pressure on Tuesday to turn the burger behemoth around – and soon – as the company reported a 3.7% decline in global same-store sales.

That ranks as the company's worst global same-store sales results in more than a decade. McDonald's last posted a 3.7% decline in sales at stores open at least one year way back in March, 2003, the company says.

Ground zero for the most recent damage was not the U.S. but the Asia-Pacific region, where same-store sales collapsed 14.5% due to a high-profile food safety scandal that involved the repackaging of expired meat in China by a major supplier. The scandal impacted other fast-food companies as well.

"We believe that McDonald's has lost credibility with the consumer in that region," said Sterne Agee analyst Lynne Collier, in a note to investors.

McDonalds's stock took a hit, closing down 1.52%, off $1.41 to close at $91.09.

If anyone is looking for an opportunity, GAZPROM (OGZPY) is now around 6.6 and oil prices have gone from $105 to almost $80.

You can go long on Oil with USO although this is a short term play for various reasons.

I am buying Gazprom and will look for further dips on oil.

Yes. Gazprom isn't going anywhere

Nope, not yet anyway.  The reason their stock is so high is because they sale crazy volumes of gas and oil at high margins to Europe.  Europe is trying to be Russian energy independent.  That's why Gazprom stock went down.  Russia is building massive pipes to China.  Chinese agreed to buy Russian energy almost at cost.  You investing money into Gazprom pretty much shows that you assuming that Europe will continue to buy Russian gas and oil and will continue to depend on Russian energy.  It's a gamble that can payoff or you can lose a lot of money.

Gazprom stock is shockingly low when you take into account a 5%+ Dividend and a P/E of 3.0+. You can't find that anywhere really. It was low before this drop.

As to the second point my research says otherwise.
