While Kelvin Benjamin has been anointed a "legitimate No. 1" after 1 preseason catch...

It might be sobering to remember that only 7 rookie receivers in the last 20 years have gone for more than 1000 yards in their first NFL campaign. And none of them are in Benjamin's mold as a player.

How many rookie receives have had KB's size?  You're talking about it here like it's a weakness.

You mention the departures of Smith, Lafell, and Ginn but don't reference the additions of Cotchery and Avant. Kelvin Benjamin is not our only receiver this season.

This is ridiculous and it shows so much disrespect to those guys.  You have ESPN analysts going as far as saying Cotchery's 10 touchdowns were a fluke.  How do you accidently fall into ten TDs?  This is the NFL and if a guy catches that many TDs he was consistently beating coverage and converting by making catches.  Avant catches everything which instantly makes him an upgrade over Lafell.  I watched some of the sideline interaction last night.  Cam, Cotchery, Avant, and Benjamin were talking practically the entire game.  These guys have established more unity and camaraderie than the WR/QB combos of the past four years.  We are going to be better.

I honestly don't give a poo about how those guys do. Some of them might be in better situations, or schemes that better fit their talents. Maybe Laffel fits better in NE (I think he might as a matter of fact) and Smitty might have a renaissance year.

I care about our guys and how they effect our team. I think they actually fit our scheme and QB better. That doesn't mean they all have to go for 1000 yards and 10 TDs. It is how they perform to give us a chance to win.

For Cam I like the bigger stronger WRs. I think we will surprise people, but we are still going to be a grind it out offense with long sustained drives, and will probably once again have less possessions than most teams. I am okay with that as long as we remain efficient

As I was watching Cotchery, Avant, and Benjamin walking off the field, I noticed how big the WRs are this year.  They do suit us better as they will block better and us being able to run on the perimeter will be great for our scheme.  With Cam, he can throw receivers open and when the play breaks down now I have more confidence in our current crop to make plays.

For many Panthersf and, it is. Panthers fans have long shown a resistance to any player with elite attributes or prototype measurables, conditioning themselves to support and back undersized players with "heart" or whatever other arbitrary non-quantifiable term you want to use to describe a player.

Time and time again you've seen this board scorn the Cam, Clowney, and Benjamin's of the world with ridiculous attempts to stand against the "popular" opinion and pass themselves off as wise.

Something that is always failed to be mentioned, when it comes to Cotch and Avant.those two WRS played a lot with QBs that extend the play. They were taught to find an open spot and come back for the ball when the play breaks down. Our former corps weren't very good in that aspect. And it's something we need with Cam.

Oh my God.

Newton takes the snap and drops back, spins to avoid the DE and shuffles to his right looking for a receiver to get open. He miraculously avoids the rush for another 3 or 4 seconds before finally tucking the ball away and running it. Nice! Cam made something out of nothing! Replay fires up and happens to catch LaFell as he stops running his route to watch Newton scramble to make a play. Screaming "come back to the fuging ball you asshole" as loud as you can and hoping that somehow a stray microwave burst, solar flare, convenient wormhole or something manages to carry your shrieking words over to BoA.

Rage. Rageragerage.

    • Yeah, I have been around Greenville/Anderson/Clemson on and off over the past 15+ years. They basically care nothing about anything other than Clemson football. Greenville might change as that area has changed. Lots of people moving there that don't have the stink of being college football brainwashed.
    • This person is one of many who cover the Panthers and it seems they are very tight lipped right now.  I wonder if it is based on Legette announcing to the world last year that the Panthers told him they were going to draft him--then we move up to get him---That is kinda embarrassing.   As much as Moton's contract is going to hurt, it is the right play.  I was wondering if he was done (and they have not announced it) or if they might be trying to trade him before it becomes a bigger issue.  I left with the feeling that he is not done and there is no talk of trading him or extending him.  S/he did say that they are going to watch him for a year before making a decision.  If that is the case, I am like you--he is not going to heal at 32 and 330 lbs.  This is his last season in Carolina, based on my interpretation of the conversation.
    • I moved from Charlotte to Greenville about 10 years ago for work.  When I moved here it was like this.  The radio shows were all college and ppl only wore college gear.  I've noticed the last couple years more and more Panthers gear and there are a couple stations that talk Panthers now.  Also to be fair, Charlotte is a Pro city, but there are alot of fans of other teams there
