While Kelvin Benjamin has been anointed a "legitimate No. 1" after 1 preseason catch...

LOL...actually, I am a 'Noles fan.

I like Benjamin He has a lot of upside and could be a really, really solid wideout...maybe even great with time...but it's going to take time for him to evolve into anything near an elite receiver, IMHO. He tends to get a little lazy in his routes as well.

I have to laugh at people talking about Smitty and LaFell's drops, though.

These people must have never seen KB play in a real game.

The guy drops a LOT of balls.

I believe, statistically, he dropped nearly 10 percent of the catchable passes thrown his way last year.

Of course his size allows him to grab some balls others would like miss.

We will see. It is just very unusual for a rookie receiver to come in and put up really big numbers in their first year.

Hard to see big time improvement from this receiving group, add the uncertainty on the offensive line and Carolina might be in for another long year offensively.

There is one wonderful thing about the NFL, though.

History has proven If your defense is good enough...you can win the Super Bowl.

Even with a lackluster offense.

What kind of fan are you. You are clearly not a panther fan because no real panther fan would focus so much negativity on a new rookie wr that everyone in the fan base is looking forward too. No one wants to hear you debbie downer poo.

Lets look at these situations, Steve smith ALWAYS did his best when he was doubted and playing with a chip on his shoulder.  I doubt he'd be having the camp he's had this year and had the offseason he had without wanting to prove the panthers wrong and playing with a chip on his shoulder.  You'll see a nice little "resurgence" in his career this year, then he will slowly come back down to earth.  Regardless of feeling, he only has 2-3 years left in the NFL tops.  I love Smitty, but the truth hurts.

As for Lafell, it has been the Brady way over the past decade of making very average, very plain receivers look good.  There's a reason why when receivers leave New England, they never have the same amount of success.  The only exception I can think of is Welker, but then again, he went from The 2nd best QB in the NFL to the best QB in the NFL.  I still think regardless of how "great" of a camp lafell has had, he's gonna get ripped by Brady multiple times because his issue has never been his training camp, it's when the lights come on and its for real.  Lafell was an average receiver that played below average when all the pressure was on him.  That will not change just because he's in New England.

Our receiver group has been fantastic, and I'm really liking the direction we're going.  If KB will be a great #1 and Cotchery and Avant will very well fill the #2 and 3 slots.  Where we look the best though is deeper down, Bersin and King have looked impressive, and I want to see them get some time earlier in the game with the #1's.  Our future is getting brighter, and without question, it is brighter than it would be with 89 and Lafail still on our roster.  Sad to say, but sometimes the truth hurts.

I don't think Cotchery and Avant are necessarily any better than Ginn and Lafell. All are journeyman WRs at this point. Interesting that Ginn and Lafell signed the most lucrative contracts of the 4 despite apparently sucking last year. There is a reason for that.

This board I think has convinced itself that we upgraded at the #2 and #3. I'm not really that convinced but all you need are decent guys if you can get the O-Line working and your #1 is a threat

The X factor will of course be Benjamin. He may have the ability to transform this offense.

The WRs last year caught 10 catches a game on average.

KB will catch 10 passes in his sleep.

Maybe.

While KB might be able to change our offense into more of a passing attack, we still had threats last year yet were almost dead last in passing attempts. In other words it wasn't that Lafell et. al. were dropping everything near them it's just that we didn't run that many plays. Our offense was anemic.

I would not expect us to become a scoring juggernaut just because we have a talented rookie.
