Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith appeared to injure his right shoulder moments ago during the night practice. He has been carted to the locker room.

The extent of the injury is not yet known, but Smith collided with CB Chris Gamble in mid-air and appeared to land wrong on his shoulder. Moments after the injury Smith rested on his knees moving his body back and forth in obvious pain.

Then, as he stood up, he kicked his helmet across the field in frustration. He was treated by trainer Ryan Vermillion and then take to the locker room. It’s hard to say the extent of the injury at this point.

We’ll have an update after practice.

dunno....I've never had a broken anything but can't see anyone 'kicking their helmet' if they were in pain.....just sayin'.....sounds like a frustration kind of thing.

Well, IR or not, if he misses more than about 4 or 5 games we are effectively screwed anyway. He might as well go on IR at that point.

I don't think the kicking his helmet thing is supposed to signify that it's a serious injury (although it may well be). Especially with Smith, it could just show that he's mad/frustrated that he tweaked his shoulder or what not. I hope it's nothing big...I'm gonna stay cautiously optimistic for now.

im 99 percent sure he'll be okay. guys....its steve smith for gods sake. =)

but this sucks...i jsut received my panthers @ cardinals tickets in the mail and i was so excited and now i had to come back to this. but im staying positive =)

If it is something with the arm or shoulder, it will keep him out a while, but he'll still play at some point in the season. he'll be fine
