I thought signing Harper was a bad idea at the time. This franchise makes odd decisions. We couldn't find someone young and hungry, ready to go out and prove himself and lay on some big hits. We get a guy who is 31 and slight of build with nothing to prove, winding down his career? Holy smokes.

That's not true, you've got to look at the structure of the contract.

 

He stands to make as much as 1.4 million this year, and 1.8 million next year. After 2015 the Panthers can basically void his contract.

Sure.  The Panthers could get another inexperienced guy who would cost them games.  They took a flyer on a vet who knows how to play.  With the young guys up front, he really is a good fit.  Of course his health is the biggest issue.

You have seen Harper play the last two seasons? No doubt he knows how to play... He is just really limited speed wise and health wise...he simply cannot play at an even avg level anymore.

Name  someone who fits that mold. Just because it worked with Mitchell doesn't mean that there is always a guy available like that all the time that ends up working out. There are 31 other teams constantly trying to do the same thing.

Have no issue with Roman Harper....he's a nice person.  It's unfortunate for him.  That said....I thought Quentin Mikell did a nice job for us late last season.  If we want a vet he would make sense.  He already knows the system.
