2014 Panthers could make history in the NFC South

1) If the Panthers win the division, Carolina will have won the most division titles in the NFC South. Since the NFC South was created in 2002, all four teams are tied with 3 division titles a piece. And since 1995 when the Panthers entered the NFL, all four current NFC South teams are tied with 4 division titles a piece

2) If the Panthers win the division, it will be the first time in history that any of the NFC South teams have ever won back-to-back division titles (including when they were in previous divisions). No current NFC South team has ever won back-to-back division titles regardless of what division they were in.

3) If the Panthers make the playoffs (even as a wildcard), it will be only the 5th time in history that any of the current NFC South teams made it to the playoffs two or more seasons in a row. The only ones to have done it so far were:

-Saints: 1990, 1991, 1992

-Bucs: 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 (won SB in 2002)

-Falcons: 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012

-Saints: 2009, 2010, 2011 (won SB in 2009)

(note: you could add the early 80's Bucs who went to back to back playoffs in 1981, 1982...but the Bucs went 5-4 in 1982 and finished 3rd in the NFC Central but got to go to the playoffs because of the 57-day long players' strike that messed up the season, resulting in a special playoffs format where 57% of the NFL teams went to the playoffs that season.)

And if you look at those four teams that did it, you can see they each were very strong on one side of the ball, like we are on defense (hopefully for years to come):
