Well, the draft will be the big clue. If we draft a RB on day one, then we don't really have full confidene in our current staff. If we get another every down type, Shelton is screwed. Shelton at worst will take Stephen Davis' spot as our power back and short yardage guy.

I think Shelton really could be an asset for our team in '06. I just don't feel comfortable entering the season with him as our #2. We need to add more depth at RB. Either through the draft or FA.

I think our offseason moves will tell how much faith the team has in Shelton. I also think the year on IR was very humbling for him and hopefully he will be a better player for it.

I dont know if I like the idea of him being number 2 yet.

I think he will be very good, but I dont want the season to end again because we dont have a decent depth.

I really hope we go for some depth at RB this season. I dont mean be blowing a 1 rounder on one, or paying out the ass. But getting some good players.

But then again, we might have the right depth, just an unlucky season.

Go Panthers 06

I doubt its mental issues, the kid can play, we had too much faith in Davis, Foster and WTF Goings, not enough room for him. He will do the damn thing this spring...mark my words..

i read somewhere months ago that he just wasn't picking up the playbook or pass protection at all. i'll have to go back and find it later, as i'm at work right now. but he wasn't ready for it just about every way concievable. which is kind of disappointing when you consider that a henning run offense is pretty basic and simple. BUT AGAIN, I HOPE THAT HE DOESN'T TURN OUT TO BE A BUST. I WANT HIM TO SUCCEED. (i got a negative rep for stating what i read about whenever i first posted in this thread. i made that sentence all caps since it's how i truly feel about the issue). he has a lot of things to work on and hopefully he's lived in that playbook all season long.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
