RIP Robin Williams

Back in '88, I was visiting family in NYC, & my aunt came in and asked if I would go to a show with her friend's daughter. I was a theatre geek so the fact that the girl was cute was a bonus. We went to see "Waiting for Gadot" starring Robin Williams & Steve Martin. (The play is about two guys waiting for this Gadot, & they can't do anything but wait til he gets there.) There were two moments in the show where they said fug the script & went improv. One happened when Robin & Steve just felt like it, one at the end of a monologue by Lucky (a slave played by Bill Irwin) that is the point of the play. The director wanted the distraction because so many people pompously insist on the play's meaning & few if any get it right according to the writer so he trolled the poo out of them.

The closest I can come to describing how awesome this show was is to imagine SCP talking about the morning poo he took after the Panthers win the Super Bowl in New Orleans & Al runs in to post about how since it was in the Super Dome there must've been Saints fans there, so they get partial credit, so the Panthers have a Super Bowl, but the saints have 1.2, then PhillyB makes a cartoon about the mental gymnastics Al needed for that, showing him doing parkour around NO, later revealing that Pat was actually stumbling down his block to Wendy's in a Ben & Jerry's haze to get a 4 triples with cheese, 4 biggie fries, & diet coke enema...

Idk what I just read, but pie

This sounds like RW actually wrote the last paragraph

Same here with this being one of the most gut wrenching celebrity deaths for me.  Robin Williams and Jim Carrey really epitomized the 90s for a lot of people and during his prime, he was simply one of the greatest of all-time.  Fuggin terrible.  :(

I'm shocked and saddened, but honestly not surprised. I feel like I've heard this story a dozen times by now. Never on the scale of someone like Robin Williams, but the tragic comedian, Pagliacci life cut short by their own hands. My uncle. A couple friends and acquaintances. Often the ones who are smiling on the outside are the ones who are the saddest inside. It's a coping mechanism, like some people adopt an extroverted nature to cover for inner self-consciousness.

My mom went to a benefit where Robin was the guest host a number of years ago. She said he when he wasn't "on" he was very quiet and just spent all his time talking to the children.

Very sad, but you have to know that the Robin Williams we saw on film and on stage was a character, and we'll never know what it was like inside his head. At least we have many hilarious and heart-felt performances on film to remember him by, and help us through this sad news.

I just find it stupid that I've never heard anybody make a status update on facebook about robin williams, and he dies today and it's announced 2 hours ago and everybody's tripping over themselves acting like they were robin williams' number one fan this entire time because everyone's compelled to ride the current event coat tails and try to be relevant. I'd be fine with a select group of people who you'd believe are actual robin williams fans saying something, but the sheer try-hard rush of trending topical status updates that could literally be anything else viral is frying my frashphone right now.

Still, it's tragic the way his life ended. He was a dedicated philanthropist that gave so much to society in multiple ways. My favorite performance of his was Awakenings. If you like robin williams and haven't seen that one, I suggest you check it out.

His AMA on Reddit from 10 months ago is great. If there was any question how funny and quick he was, some of his answers had me dying laughing.

Worth the read

Thank you for an INCREDIBLE session. This was really a lot of fun. And saved me a lot of therapy time. I hope to come back.

    • His o loaded with swift, dj, Keenan and Rome was inconsistent at best. The d was bad. And the game management was atrocious and lost them games.  He was terrible and made the team worse. I wish they kept him
    • That is my point.  I think teams make a huge mistake when they pay their decent to average QBs top QB money because they feel that they have to match the market or lose their investment--There is no way, for example, that Tua or Prescott or Murray should all be making more than Mahomes--I mean, Dak makes $15m per season more than Mahomes. People say, "Well, when its his turn...." But that is not how it should be--so my point was that Bryce can be doing mediocre to good enough in 2 years, but the way it is going, you have to pay him at the starting QB rate--currently $60m.  So even if you think he will continue to improve, at $60 m, he would eliminate any chance for a ring---so my view is, if he is not elite, you cut him.  So you draft QBs now and see what you can make of them.
    • With two 4ths and three 5ths I’m hoping we can kill it on adding depth. Take a gamble with the two 7ths.  First 3 picks id love to address the defense. I expect Tuttle, Robinson, and Jewell to all be on the 2025 roster but not after that. Be a good time to add depth and let them develop a year.
