I think the run game will greatly improve with better OL play. I like our interior, I really think they just need more time together. A formidable game plan would be nice, perhaps we see an I.provement in game three.

Just don't talk poo about a RB if he is getting smacked by three different defenders in the backfield. Wtf barner sucks! Yeah just stop folks

 

I've said this many time today already.

 

I think it's going to be like 2011 again. The Panther passing game is going to actually to be way more prominent than many experts, and even fans realize.

 

Why? First of all, the run game sucks. More importantly, the passing game with Benjamin (and what he'll do for the rest of the receivers) is just going to be flat out more reliable than the Panther run game. The Panthers will also be able to play "Ball control offense" through their stock pile of big, strong sure handed receivers and Ends.

 

Once defenders play off the run game to defend the passing game, then the running game will open up. Except for Tolbert, Panther RB's need space, as their not tough or shifty enough to run through crowds. The passing game will help them.

Our TE position was such a black hole I would just say fug it and trade for Greg Olsen, then when we actually got him I fapped for days.

 

Well, with Benjamin, you gotta a guy that can do everything Olsen can do, and more.

 

Now you throw in Dickson and Cotchery, and things are looking much better and like 2011 with the Panthers.

 

Let's face it: The run game sucks. And until proven otherwise, the Passing Game (in my opinion) seems more sure handed and explosive than the run game, until the Panther RB's get some space (along with timely blocking) to open things up for those g guys.

This right here will be huge. 2+ years ago defenses stacked the box. Cam didn't make good reads on which LB's were blitzing and which weren't. It has gotten light years better despite the OL getting worse.

The OL needs to gel and the Panthers need to run the ball more often in 2014 then in years past. This will be the only way they will succeed pass blocking. There is a great article around somewhere that talks about OL. The OL always get beat pass blocking and only have an advantage run blocking. That is when they can wear down the defense - no tall task today with the high rotations used on the front 3 or 4. I would like to see the stat, how many 3rd downs were converted by run and how many by pass in 2013 by the Panthers. I'd like to see if it is any different then most NFL teams.

Maybe it is just the OC, though...

The big thing now is that Cam is capable of making the reads and playing exceptionally well. If he has time to take 3 to 4 step drops 30 times a game it is going to make a difference on the W-L column. But, expecting him to complete a pass to save a series on 3rd and 2 is just ridiculous. The OL needs to step up and the RB's need to find lanes.

i think that buffalo didn't respect the passing game and i feel like others won't so they'll sell out to stop the run game and esp. to contain cam.

as crazy as it sounds around here, pass blocking may be the strength of this OL and, contrary to your perception of the receiving corps...we actually have a good and very relaible one made up of guys who catch well, are fundamentally sound, and who have height to them...and i'm including the TEs in that corps as i think we'll be running multiple TE sets with regularity. you may not think our receiving corps is anything to fear, but i can promise you that our passing game and receivers will be respected in a short amount of time and that will open up the run game.

I'm pretty sure Ron and Dave took notice of how poor the run-blocking was last night.... have a little faith.

They had all season last year to take notice.....and they let the OL get worse.

We are a ball control, power run O.....pass doesn't set up the run if that is what you claim to be IMO

Guys please be aware of who's on the field and where they line up. Like for example all the 2 TE sets the panthers where in, well the bills put 8 in the box. Running against that, dem are big odds for the D. Plus it seemed the bills called a lot of biltzs, the run type ones. They seem to know what/where the play was going to be before it happen. Plus give some credit to the DL, cause after the panthers, they have a top 5 DL.

Lastly it was the second preseason game for the bills, where most teams play their starters/rotation/good young players more than the first game. More than a few times the panthers had a mix of second/third teamers out there against bill first/second teamers. Theres a huge difference between first and second teamers, id like to see a baseball war stat of some players.

I like Crotchery , a poor mans Welker, and I like Benjamin. The pass game will probably largely incorporate Olsen again. The guy is money. I am pegging Crotchety to snag 40-50 with 500-600 yards, Olsen to snag 85-90 and 850-900 yards and KB around 75 with 800+ yards.

If those 3 can stretch the field you'll end up with open and available RB's. I've never been a fan of the RB unit y'all have but this year will be a litmus test. There is. O reason they shouldn't succeed given the balance now provided on O.

Yes, contrary to outside perspective, National media, the Panthers run game sucks.

 

Whether it's the blocking (finesse blockers), or the backs (finesse and beat up), the Panthers run game has been woefully inconsistent the past two seasons. If you took Cam Newton's scrambles out of the Panthers fun game numbers, they become quite ordinary, and even more inconsistent.

 

The last season, when the run game was decent, was during Cam's rookie season. Back then, the passing game started with a flurry the first 8 games, and the Panthers were able to run first the second half of the season when defenses geared up for the passing game that set them back on their collective heels the first half of the season.

 

Contrary to National opinion again, the improved passing attack/options (in my opinion) is going to have to set the pace for the Panther offense again, giving the RB's/run game room to operate, as their not the shiftiest or strongest bunch (except for Tolbert) coming out the backfield, so will needed the added space.

with all due respect to Avant and his abilities I am not ready to put him in the conversation about contributions to the team.

It'll be there, he will get some offense but I feel it has a higher chance then not of being lackluster and underperforming.

Hand in hand the success he finds will come from the RB's since the routes he runs will shallow and across the middle

i know. we've got two guys that are those super reliable workhorse slot guys. i think both will be solid contributors.
