Kelvin Benjamin - Aside from the touchdown....

seriously i sit here and try to stay a bit reserved in the way i look at him. i don't knw why i shouldn't feel all giddy about him considering the success with first round picks historically, esp. in the last few years (once we stopped being stupid and trading them away).

cam, luke, and star were all big time slam dunks and, despite the fact that he was picked so late in the round (some in here basically called that pick a 2nd rounder because it was so late), so far it seems that we've done it again.

i know it's early, but man....the guy looks to be everything we've been hoping for. he's got the talent, the natural ability, and the killer work ethic that we've gotten used to seeing in our elite first rounders. his attitude seems to fit really well with the new culture that they seems to be building here that is interested in the concept of team and making the others around them better while continually growing and learning from those same people. at the risk of deviating  alittle from the topic, i don't think that smitty was a good fit for that culture. that's not a knock in him...that's just not who he was here. he made others better just by playing, but for the most part everything was centered on him and that was the way he liked it and needed it to be. it was him against the world on a team that has become "us" against the world.

actually he has a real chance at OROY.  Most of the offensive players taken ahead of him were

linemen, which almost never win that award.  2 of the highest drafted wr's are on teams with

questionable or less quarterback play.

I think his biggest rivals will be Bortles, who looked really good in his first game, and Cooks, who

did also.

I don't get my info from ESPN.  Strictly Bleacher Report.  It's got the best stuff!

Gilmore shoved him?  When?  When Benjamin was already behind him almost 2 yards?  Gilmore was beat off the snap, and badly.

Video is here: http://www.panthers.com/media-vault/videos/Kelvin-Benjamin-29-Yard-TD-Catch/2c2b4290-4977-403b-ac69-9327ee32afde

This is @ 36s in the clip. I see a push

Words cannot begin to describe how excited I was after I saw that we drafted him. I know that I've posted it several times already, but after seeing him play vs Clemson I tuned into most of FSU's games just to see what #1 would do next. While I was watching the NCG with a good friend that is also a die hard Auburn fan, all I did was talk up #1.

When we drafted him, I had the same giddiness that I did when we drafted Star and then went and got KK in the 2nd.

I was torn on who's jersey I'd get this year to replace.my blue 89. It was down to TD or KB.

I think that it'll have to be both now.

A few observations:

Gilmore looked hardly himself last night, disinterested and not full go.  On the TD mentioned he failed to bother to turn his head; if he had done so the pass is easily deflected.  Also, it was funny watching Gilmore watch Benjamin - he gave up and figured Benjamin would have done the same once the contact was made.  If that was the average veteran player at WR, they'd have given up to, at least IMO.  Benjamin has something to prove, a rookie and he got in a tough catch.

Gilmore struggled a bit last season early after recovering from a broken hand and the contact rules have really messed with him.

shutup his ass got beat. He tried to push and still got beat.

In fairness to BuffaloBills62, most posters on the Bills forum seem to hate Gilmore, so I don't think he's taking credit away from KB as much as he is shitting on Gilmore.

That said, they also seem to hate EJ Manuel and want Jeff Tuel to start, despite EJ playing pretty well, considering the circumstances. So they're probably just retarded.

Not that it matters getting in to what could have or might have... but in most games I think Benjamin gets McKelvin. He is far more athletic and faster then Gilmore. He would have been able to keep up and get in to position much more easily then Gilmore. And, slammed to the ground - nah, because they'd have just pulled the CB back 5 yards and any contact would be illegal. Also, they'd have gone to a cover 4.

From the limited amount I saw of KB I have to believe the best way to cover him in the NFL is to intercept and cut him off in motion with the safety. There is little to not reason to not double team him because there are no viable threats to catch a cold on the team. Double coverage on KB will be done from his first snap in his first game. Against the Bucs you will likely see the CB play inside and under on KB, avoid nearly all contact and let Goldson cover the top. Goldson will likely even be the first player to make contact. Being that he only ran a 4.61 Benjamin isn't blowing by anyone and defenders have a better chance at jumping his route then they do actually stopping him. He's just too big and powerful.

If you can keep him outside it will be even easier but a nearly impossible task to do.

Yes, we aren't loaded at receiver.....but Olsen and Cotchery did more than whatever 2 Bills you want to name last season in the recieving game. By a good margin. So be carefully dissing guys from your glass house

So there are guys to catch balls. Discredit them and you have to basically discredit your roster
