David Newton: Impressions from 8/5 practice

I'm not big believer in Godfrey.  The backfield seemed a lot better without him last year and I just don't think that was a coincedence.  Through out the years I watched him, he always seemed to be a step out of position or miscommunication or something....I don't know, I just never felt he had the football brain he needed to have back there; but, that's just my opinon.  He was given a huge contract by Hurney, so what do I know.

I went back and forth with a guy on this last week.  He was the only player in the secondary that didn't play most of the season.  We went 0-2, with him giving up or being in the vicinity of three touchdowns before he got hurt.  He left, our pass defense played better.  Its that simple.  Now he is struggling yet again.  I just hope Rivera doesn't allow him to cost us at the first of this year when we could go ahead with the rookie and let him take his lumps.

i actually remember a thread where you and I agreed that KB wouldn't be a DG type of pick because we both thought he was too raw after those DG comments about you have to be able to run the route tree and be able to make an impact day 1.

that's why i was so shocked because i thought Kelvin was the antithesis of those statements. Boy was i wrong after listening to DG's press conference.

Yes, I remember that.

Basically, we can discern some bits of G-man's overall draft philosophy, but we must never forget that we will never be able to see the complete picture.  Each draft has its own dynamics, and the evaluations of individual players are entities unto themselves. On our part, it's all just casual conjecture. This is the lesson I learned from being a first time draftnik.
